Bye bye Samsung...?

I was more interested to see how others feel. I was kind of hoping that more people thought like this and that maybe by the power of the consumer spending, the Note line would go back to standing out. Wishful thinking that Samsung cares... but hey ho.

Remember the Note 5 and the removal of the memory card slot? I didn't buy that phone but held on to my Note 4. I had a 128 GB memory card in it so buying a 32 GB Note 5 made no sense. 12 months later Samsung made the Note 7. WITH A MEMORY CARD SLOT. Nothing is permanent in the business world except the desire to make a profit. The only loyalty I have is towards what I desire in a phone. Galaxy Note (and S to a lesser degree) phones still provide that. As long as they do I'll buy them.

Get off the keyboard and open a door to Best Buy. Look at the 10+.

The 9 isn't a big deal over the 8. The 10 is.

If you haven't seen it and held it yet you are premature in your condemning of it.

That's not necessarily the case. My thoughts on the S10 were based on the features that were being removed and the designs. I eventually found one in Sam's. I retain my original disappointment.

Okee dokee. Then best of luck on finding the unicorn and I hope for your sake that your retention of disappointment is temporary because it would really bad to have that be part of your life, particularly when you haven't even spent money on one.

I've been all about Bluetooth. I have been way before headphone jacks disappeared.. just funny to see Samsung fans change their tune the second Samsung does whereas before they posted the videos from Samsung making fun of it (which btw have disappeared from the Samsung YouTube channel).

Samsung "fans" have no choice but to change their tune. Just like Apple fans.

PC made fun of Apple. Coke and Pepsi were making fun of each other decades ago. Hard book make fun of ebooks and vice versa. That's one version of marketing.

If Samsung "fans" don't like the changes, they don't buy and let Samsung know why. Samsung may or may not change.

The tune has nothing to do with what the company is doing. Plenty were super mad at apple for a long time. Could they do anything about it? No but they could be upset.

I was commenting on how quickly the Samsung fans swap their tune from mocking apple fans to now sticking up for Samsung on the announcement of the change

I hope you will come back and tell us about the Asus! I love their products but Verizon doesn't support their phones. I'm guessing that battery makes it heavy but oh the joy of a flat screen. I've always hated the curved edges.
Always been the biggest Note fan since the Note 2. Have been on Samsung since the original Galaxy S. Was even one of those that tried to keep the Note 7 as long as possible.

Looks like I'm not getting a Note. This unveiling made me remember why I went for the Note line....that I care more about the specs of a phone than the looks and aesthetics.

The note always stood out from other android phones when it came to screen size, specs, spen, functionality etc.

Now they are all catching up and the difference even within the Samsung phone line is minuscule. Just the s pen stands out as the obvious difference.

So this year.... I cant believe I'm doing this... I'm switching to another android phone.

I'm going for the ROG phone 2 and keeping my Note 9.

ROG is clearly a spec beast with 120hz display, Snapdragon 855+, 6000 milli-amp battery, super loud front facing stereo speakers, amoled screen, side facing usb port, in package cooling fan system, almost pure android os etc.

Yes, I use the s-pen but I'll keep my note 9 as a second phone.

So yeah....

Thoughts?

C'mon, that's just silly. iPhone fans had options - other top tier phones with headphone jacks. Samsung fans don't have an option unless they want to take a step down. All other top tier phones have converted. To be honest, I don't see a lot of "defending" of Samsung. It's actually been a lot of lament before the official announcement and now it's doing what can be done now that it's gone. That's hardly defending. More of accepting fate.

I, too, have been using bluetooth stereo from way back - well before iOS or Android. My first bluetooth headset was a Sony that consisted of a rope hanging around my neck with a big dongle receiver hanging like a necklace with two ear buds. I currently rotate between 4 bluetooth headsets to use with my Note 9. That said, I hate the fact that the jack is gone. Even though I didn't use it that much for music, it was great for conference calls where I needed some privacy to hold the mic to my mouth rather than talk out loud so everyone would hear. I'll now be limited to using the supplied earphones or a dongle, but what can I do? I want the features of a Note. It's take it or leave it and I'm not stepping down to a non-flagship phone. I haven't said much about the lack of a jack, but man I sure don't like it. Such is life.

I have ROG on my motherboard, and personally don't need it on my phone. I am not such a hardcore gamer that I would need 120hz and a cooling fan in my phone any time soon. I am actually a total fan of ASUS... My motherboard, my 2080ti, my router... but The Note 10 to me is not so much an abomination to make me think to jump to a gamer phone. I mean, the ROG2 has vents. LOL but that phone does give a lot of bang for the buck, truth be told.

You may not have seen it but I definitely have. It's all good. I expected it. It's normal human behavior to defend what you love. Been that way across these forums and elsewhere for years.

My question is why do most companies make gaming focused products so ugly?!?!

Speaking of the ROG 2 and other gaming phones, it's a breath of fresh air. Everything else has become a race to become the most generic cookie cutter design and trying to "out Samsung" Samsung when it comes to features (or lack thereof).

I've never been a fan of the Notes, but am looking hard at the ROG 2. It has a lot of features I'd like, but here's still many I don't. My V20 is showing its age now, and the ROG 2 is currently the least bad phone I'd want to replace it, if that makes any sense. The biggest questions now are Verizon support (questionable) and price.

Removing core features, increasing prices AND failing to actually develop innovative product is what just killed the Note line. Buying a Note USED to mean getting a bump, albeit tiny in SoC. You got a better camera and tweaked/improved software experience too.

Since Note 7, fans receive also ran specs (compared to S models). Screen sizes have long since been matched. So the remaining TRUE reason to buy Note model remained the S-Pen and kitchen sink features.

Clearly, those days are likely over. And yes I have used a live model 10+ and I own a 9. And seeing the haphazard direction Samsung is traveling, it makes me really miss the high notes no pun (...well maybe a little) intended.

Note 5 had the Exynos SoC and was Hella fast tho lost microSD support but...
Note 7 was beautiful and I remember wanting it so badly and then the disappointment of well you all know.
Note 8 & 9 were ok. Definitely did not inspire but were derivative S model specs.
Note 10 is NOT a Note period. I don't care what Samsung labels it.
Note 10+ a sad attempt, pathetic even at innovating.
If Samsung continues, this will be my farewall to the Note.
And I did NOT leave the Note. The Note left me!

Note 10+ to me is a worthy upgrade and further enhances the Note legacy while leaving out features that I never used (except one that I can live without - haptic home button).

I agree that the Note 10 is just to make a S10 with a Spen inside to see how that works out.

Samsung is the leader of "let's make many many different products and see what sticks to the wall" type of company.

I see you are a newer user here - welcome to Android Central!

You have to do what's right for you - and if that means skipping the Note this year, go for it! The ROG 2 sounds like an impressive device, for sure! Let us know when you get it and post some unboxing photos, please!

Make sure and post in the ROG Phone 2 forum and let us know how it is. I was looking at it pretty hard, but the Note10+ won out, for now. Who knows, could always change later down the road.

It’s not only about specs and features it’s also about software, reliability and the overall package. The p30 has a great camera set up and the pixel 3 a great camera and deep integration with the google assistant. However for me those phones don’t bear the overall package of a note or S phone.

Not sure if you’ve noticed but for the past few years most of the innovation and big progress has been happening in the Galaxy S line, not the Note. That makes sense for Samsung because most people buy the Galaxy S phones, not the Note. So if every year there is big progress in the Galaxy S line it will be more successful, while the Note line is more niche.

The Note 10 series isn’t what I was hoping for but it isn’t reasonable to expect something radically different from the S10+. Next year’s Galaxy S and Note phones should be noticeably more advances. I’m hoping to see a triple aperture camera and/or 48/64/108MP lens with 3x optical zoom.

Indeed Samsung has used the S and A model increasingly to test/demo new tech features. And yes i realize the Note line is NOT the premier model. Not since the Note5 has the Note been specifically better spec wise.

And the Note10x isn't impressive anymore. It is simply an S model with Pen tech. And that is sad because that is NOT the heritage of the Note. But note has become merely an also run.

Personally, I could care less what the AC Google lovers say about Samsung phones. I am not a phone junkie. I change phones no more than every 2 years. My phone is a business device. I use it to help me run a multi million software division. I use my phone a lot on planes doing PowerPoint and Word. My Note 8 is great for O365, SP, Teams and Skype for Business. Plus many other business apps. My idea of gaming is solitaire.

I like the Note 10+. The only area I wish Samsung did a little more on was the camera. That said I am happy with the Note 8 camera. So the Note 10 camera will meet my needs. I do wish Samsung would ditch the curved screen. I use the SPen all the time taking notes.

I am very excited to get the Note 10 plus.

That's the right attitude. Buy what you like...like what you buy.

Exactly! This is what I’m talking about. The early Notes were about big screens, but ever since the Note 7/8 the Note series has been about performance, the S Pen and multitasking abilities perfectly suited for business. Add in Samsung Dex (something a lot of people forget about) and the Note can connect to several other devices via USB just like a laptop or PC. Eshropshire is a good example of the Galaxy Note’s target audience and market.

Again, the Galaxy S series is Samsung’s ‘everything phone’ for ordinary consumers. The Note is more niche, targeting businessmen/businesswomen and power-users who demand future-proof performance and multitasking prowess.
