Calendar Reminders

So, I use the calendar frequently on my Samsung Galaxy S7 (with the new 8.0 Oreo software update, which I HATE, btw - why on earth would they get rid of the notification badges after you swipe away a notification???). Let's say I put "PAY ELECTRIC BILL" on my calendar - next month, if I want to add that same reminder, "PAY ELECTRIC BILL", usually all I have to do is type out the P and the A, and then it automatically pops up as the PAY ELECTRIC BILL reminder I'd set in the past. Now, ever since the update, it doesn't do that. Every time I add a reminder, I have to type up the entire word/phrase - there are no suggestions that pop up. SUPER FRUSTRATING!

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix?

Because once you've swiped it away you don't have the notification any more. It's not "an email count" or "a text count", it's a notification count. If you pull down the shade and have no notifications, you have no notification badges.

Make sure you have your keyboard set to make suggestions. If that gets turned off (manually or due to an update), the keyboard won't make any suggestions. (Why would they change a manual setting with an update? That would bother me more than the badging.)

You can get "app counts" in badging by going to the Nova Launcher. (You need the paid version for badging, but it shows the number of unread items in the app, not the number of notification tiles.)
