Calendar sync range

Is there a way to configure the Android Calendar to sync backwards & forwards a specific range? For example, I can't see events on my calendar a year back, which probably means the phone is not pulling down events that far back. I would like to be able to tell my phone to sync calendar events "5 years back" or whatever.

I have a Samsung Captivate running firmware 2.2 (custom ROM)
