Call blocking and not receiving messages

I was under the impression that blocking a number through the phone's native software still allowed the caller to leave a message.

I just blocked a number and it said, "You will no longer receive calls or messages from this number," which is awesome.

Has it always been like this or has this just started? Does anyone know what the caller hears on the other end when it is blocked just through the phone's software?

If I block through my Verizon accounts page, the caller definitely knows he or she is blocked because it says the caller has dialed a restricted number or in a text that the message has failed.

So, with blocking just through the phone's software, does this also stop texts as well? I know I can blacklist through Textra, but curious just how far the phone's blocking software goes.

Thanks for any insight :-*

I'd like to know the answer to that question too

So why not block a friend and then have them call you to see what they hear?
You could unblock them after.

I believe that message indicates that phone calls and text messages will be blocked. Caller can still leave a voicemail.

Yeah, I have thought they could still leave a message. I am going to test it later today when I see one of my friends.

Blocked my wife, called my phone with hers. My phone showed her call blocked. Her phone rang on her end until it went to my voicemail. Appears that blocked callers can still leave voice messages. Sent a text from her phone, appeared normal on her end (no message or indicator that she is blocked), received nothing on my end. Not ideal but better than nothing.

Not surprising, but thanks for the info!

I’m wanting to block the voicemails coming from most, if not all of the numbers I block, the scammers and spammers.

Thanks for checking on that. I have been so busy I keep forgetting to check it.

I use the five free blocked numbers through Verizon for numbers I want completely blocked. Those numbers have to be reinstated every three months but it is worth the effort.

SHOULD I ANSWER app may do this.
I don't get voicemail from blocked costs, but they may not be trying to leave one.
The icon is a green octopus.

When I blocked my ex g/f in the past using the option within the Verizon website it blocked her 100%. It has a 3 or 6 month duration however. it has been a while so whether or not this has changed...
