Camera flash in selfie mode

Why dots the camera flash take do long when it's in selfie mode? Is there a setting I can change?

I don't see a setting to adjust the flash duration. Probably because when the screen lights up, the camera makes the necessary adjustments for the lighting to give it the most optimal image.
