Camera malfunction in scanner apps

Bought a S Gal S5 in October and have used it a lot for taking photos and been very happy with the camera. Recently I started trying to use different scanner apps - first business card scanner CamCard Lite and subsequently Tiny Scanner PDF.

I've had to give up using either one for the same apparent issue - the camera is totally unable to focus on text. I've tried different types of paper, lighting, angles, rebooted, anything I can think of. The samsung camera app still works fine, but I can't get any scanners to give me anything.

Is this a known issue and does it have a solution?

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried Genius Scan? Works like a charm on my Nexus 5. If it doesn't work on your S5, then it might be something specific with the Samsung firmware.

You might also want to try ScanWritr. It works really well with your type of device and is especially good with live auto-crop (aka edge detection) on Samsung's awesome camera.
