Camera quality is still the best

Best camera compared to any Android/iPhone I've owned.

My findings as well. Google even knows this is their bread and butter. If they released an official version of the camera app on the Play Store they would likely see a dip in phone sales. Lol

They are both great cameras, but in this test, the S10 takes the cake. And not using DXO.

Yeah....I saw that one. For me it's a mixed bag and in a lot of cases it depends on how you like your photos processed. I like different things about each photo. I think picture quality among the best of the best out there is splitting hairs.

On a separate note Google needs to step up their game and add at least a wide angle to the rear. Telephoto would be nice too.

Well, the Pixel has set the pace for computational photography since 2016. There's a reason everyone compares their camera performance against "Pixel quality" and that ain't because it's just okay.

The same reason you see everyone always talking "Well you can just port the Gcam and it's almost as good".. They want that performance for a reason. Believe that!

I don't need to have the best camera, just a good reliable one. Here's an unprocessed image from our trip last week to AZ

It's the best for stills. Not very good for video.

It's not the best for video....I personally won't put it in the not very good category because it's been adequate for what I need it to do. There's certainly room for improvement.

The the “camera quality still the best” is not a true statement. :-p.
A camera is a camera is a camera.
If a camera does both, stills and videos, the the blanket statement, “camera quality is still the best”, without qualifications, has to mean and take into account still and video “quality”. :)
Y’all should stop fussing about “best” and just go make pictures.
A camera does not make pictures and virtually any factor that one could judge as better or best, like some review sites do, has nothing to do with making a good or great photograph.
:)

I take pictures all the time and I can vouch for the quality and clarity of the pics.

When is a camera not a camera?
🤣

Quality ? What’s a good “quality” photograph?
Subjective of course so your answer my not be the same as someone’s else’s.

Clarity, as a blanket statement, does not make a good photograph.

I’m not dissing the pixel at all, I just find it way amusing how so many people on these forums get their pants all twisted up by arguing over the “best” camera.

In the broadest sense (YMMV), for me, there are two very very basic types of people you use cameras, the (what I call), digi-snappers, which seem to be the catagory of most of the people on cell phone forums (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that) and photographers.
Digi-snappers are those that take quick snaps of their kids, pets, etc. and that’s absolutely great. It seems to be what most cell phone cameras are designed for, which is logical since it’s what most people use their cp camera for :). These seem to be the ones most often all twisted up with this silly “best” camera game (my momma has bigger combat boots then your mamma).
Most of these people view their photos (and the photos of others) on their cellphones, with a relatively tiny screen and most post their photos on social media outlet such as Facebook, IG, etc., many of which compress the snake snot out of the photos anyway. So what I’m getting at here, is that for most people using cellphones (at least those that post on the various phone forums) it’s just chasing a rabbit down a silly hole when arguing about whose mamma was the biggest combat boots (which camera is the “best”), because the reality of it all is that they are all good enough for how most people use the photos taken with them (viewed on tiny cellphone screens, posted on social media that mashes them to almost wasted form, etc. ).
:) :) :).

??????

Right man. That’s exactly the point.
If someone is going to get their pants all twisted up over this “my camera is the best” game (which is such a waste of energy, IMVHO), then they need to “judge” the camera on it’s totality, that is its video and stills capability. :).
But this whole “best” camera game is such a total waste of emotion and energy (see my lost above regarding why because, not only, how most pics are viewed and used).

I don't see anyone here getting twisted. You're bringing in a different view point than the posters are discussing. They aren't talking about photography in general and this isn't one of the camera forums.
They are discussing camera results amongst cell phones and the results do differ. You're entitled to disagree and if you feel they must include video results that's up to you.

I don't get the point of your argument...you don't know where I'm coming from. I take lots of photos and the first thing I look for is clarity..color...contrast...accuracy and all are addressed with the Pixel. I have an iPhone and Note and the Pixel beats them.

You do you. I like my iPhone but my Pixel was a better shot without a doubt. Maybe you don't see that but I definitely do lol.

Under ideal lighting, even a disposable camera could take great photos. My definition of a "best" camera is one that gives me great photos when the lighting is extremely poor. One such scenario that many encounter is group selfies in poorly lit restaurants. No doubt in my mind that Pixel 3 is the winner here.

Agree on that one...lighting is everything

Some posts in this thread have veered a little off-topic. As I understand it, the OP is claiming that the Pixel 3's image quality is of the highest, not claiming that that is necessary to produce good pictures. Image quality is physical and is a property of the equipment; picture quality is aesthetic and depends largely on the skills of the photographer. The two are distinct and this thread is surely about the former.
