I just purchased this phone yesterday, coming from HTC One X. Everything about it seems better, except for the camera. Can anyone post settings changes that may help. On auto the photos dont look nearly as nice as the one x...

What's funny is just because they upped the megapixels doesn't make the camera quality better. If the s4 has the same camera size has the s3 did at 8mp then the s3 piks will look better the more mp in a small sensor will cause more grain in piks.

Someone else mentioned a plastic film being placed over the lens. Have you removed that?

You are correct. I've compared pictures between my HTC One X and new Samsung S4, the pictures on my S4 are sharper.

Camera quality is very important when buying a phone because nowadays, many people are just using their mobile phones when taking pictures. I love Samsung Galaxy S4, it's really amazing.

It may be the screen brightness causing the problem for you. I noticed that the pictures seem a bit dull etc. If you turn off auto brightness and the brightness up fully then it makes a huge difference

I removed the plastic film right out of the box. The photos just seem grainy, especially when I zoom in on them after taking. My ohotos were never grainy on the One X so I thought I may have been doing something wrong with this phone... this photo looks good though.

Show me an example or two that you don't like and please give details as to the settings if possible. ISO especially if you can.

Look at the details of the image. What was the shutter speed? The ISO used? IF you can in the future -- for a night shot -- try to brace the camera against something solid; a wall, somebody's shoulder, a tree, the hood of another car, etc. I'll bet the shutter speed chosen was around 1/60 sec which for many people can induce camera shake into the image. I looked at your image details but the EXIF info was stripped out.

Are u focusing before u take a shot? Or are u randomly taking shots?
Change the aspect ratio to the highest
Also remove the plastic from the camera lens if you haven't

Be careful. The poster said it should be sharper. That is actually true since you can get more detail out of an image with a higher resolution camera. But as you say MP are just an indication of resolution, not necessarily quality.

I always focus the camera before shooting, I leave all of my settings on auto because I don't know what to change things to. Right now, 4128x2322 (16:9) burst shot off, face detection off, metering is center-weighted, ISO Auto, anti shake is On, Save as is set to Rich tone only with no option to change it. White balance auto, exposure value set to 0. Hope this helps. I appreciate it. I will post a photo in a bit showing the noise/grainyness I was describing.

Okay, what im noticing is it seems to be on most of my indoor photos. Seems great outside. Examples:
Not sure why they uploaded sideways but the indoor shot is not very clear and this has been consistent. Does good in lowlight with flash. The outdoor photo looks much sharper. Also, I am using Auto mode, nothing special. Is there a macro mode in this camera?
