Camera scratches

No I'm talking about blowing up as in EVERYBODY talking about it, not just a small thread in AC. BTW you put tape on your camera and you can't know that you "had" to, you don't know what would have happened otherwise. I would never put scotch tape over a camera lens based on a few people in a thread online. I'd either return it immediately if that paranoid, or watch it for 14 days, which I am doing. With the G5 the flaws were evident and described by most people on YouTube before it even came out. I have not seen a single mention of this other than this thread. When I start seeing an articles and YouTubers complaining then I'll worry.

What carriers is this affecting I wonder? Could it be isolated to certain carrier, or even batch?

It is amusing but more interesting if you know the context of the comment. It's based from the JerryRigEverything durability test that he did on the v20. He merely scratched the lens (small abrasion) and it caused a crack. He caught it on video.

They recently invited him to LG to tear down the G6 so I figured they had to have seen the video. It would be a really stupid fix I agree but I thought it was a strange coincidence is all. Maybe they added coating to create buffer so the actual glass doesn't get scratched as it took that little to crack the thin glass on the v20 in his video. That is why I mentioned the v20 cracking issue as being a possible motivator.

It seems in the struggle to make phones thinner, add features and in this case, get rid of the camera bump, it seems manufacturers don't mind sacrificing build quality. It's sad really but I guess phones are more and more being treated like vanity products these days. It's not just LG now, despite their history.

Common sense would be make the glass thicker but that would make too much sense.

We tested a bunch of DOA units and they all break quite easily with a small amount of pressure and a pointy object especially if you apply pressure to the glass in areas where there are voids.

I mentioned this on here before the Verizon versions released on my T-Mobile phone. It's definitely not carrier specific as a few of us T-Mobile users had the issue. It seems to be isolated to black however.

I've yet to notice a Ice Platinum with this issue. That would be rather odd if they only applied to the coating to one phone but not the other. Is there some kind of polish on the back of the black that gives it gloss that may extend to the camera lens? There are scratches popping up not only on the lens on pictures online but on the glass back itself in some of the photos online...

Funny that. I googled camera scratches and found this thread because I was searching for other places like Reddit and XDA have a few threads going. So there's two others. It's not blown up yet, but it's not quite lens cracking. Though on Reddit, there are people already claiming their lens glass cracked too easily, but then that argument comes down to how they were handling phones...

I wouldn't say it is blowing up yet, at least not online. Though it must be known to some degree by the carriers because some people are being approved to exchange/return their phones.

If I weren't REALLY happy with my g6 I'd exchanged or gone to a different phone... but the only phone that I would go to is the S8. That's not necessarily going to be less fragile than the G6...

Yeah, unfortunately the people who have had this issue can't afford to sit back and wait for this to "blow up". The fact that several people have had scratches on their brand new $700 phone is enough.

Hmmmm...if the camera glass scratching is only on the black G6s, I may get the platinum one a try if those ones don't scratch.

I really liked the G6 before I had to return it due to camera lens scratches and I'd like to give it another shot, but only if I know the glass on the camera won't scratch.

I don't think if it's been proven yet, but I won't discourage you. The Platinum is one gorgeous phone! You probably won't notice any scratches as much as the black tbh

I just wonder if those scratches aren't as seen as readily, but still there, on the ice platinum model.

I should have gotten the Platinum. It is a beautiful color, but it took awhile to grow on me while the black got me right away. I'm pissed because I loved this phone, but now I'm a little weary.

Yeah I have the ice platinum and love the color. First it won't show off fingerprints or may be scratches easily and second I was tired of getting only black phones over the past year so it's a nice change.

My new one thats now 2 weeks old is still good but I havent wiped it at all. Anytime I need to clean it I use a piece of tape.

What color? So far it seems to be limited to the black model.

I don't know if the model of the color matters. My Ice Platinum's lens is like new, but has been cased since day 1. Have only found one scratch and it is so incredibly thin, I have to chase it with several lamps, flashlights, etc to even find it. It's what I would expect to see on anything glass, so doubtful it will and can effect the shots taken by the camera. Definitely not as significant as some other people have posted on their black models... but who knows if that even matters.

Still, I have now added a camera lens protector just in case. Nillkin makes a tempered glass kit that comes with two protectors for the G6 camera lens called H+PRO. I have a review on XDA in a similar thread.

Actually, beware what you use to cover the lens, someone has mentioned in XDA that they tried to cut a G5 screen protector to fit and it caused major interference with the microphone (you can see it near my post) They exchanged their G6 thinking it was the phone, but it was the screen protector over the camera. Keeping in mind it is only one report, I thought I would mention it here in case anyone else tries cut to fit and runs into the same issue...

I included the before and after shots of my G6 after adding a lens protector. (sorry they're not the greatest of shots) I'm confident in the case and with the protection, I won't have to worry about scratches... well, not permanent ones anyway Just the one on the camera...
when they make a tempered lens protector, I will probably switch to that.

Edit: BTW, Nillkin doesn't make it very obvious the kit includes lens protectors (much less that it includes two)... it is in this text "Whole Set Version = super clear anti- fingerprint screen film + camera sticker + film paste tool ( screen cloth + de-dusting sticker + adhesion device + scratch card + removable adhesive strip + illustrated guide )"..... the second image on the slideshow up top shows the supposed protector... the real one(s) have a hole that leaves out the flash, but I included it here.

I got camera scratches also. It is not visible unless I put it under a light. I noticed it and thought I could just wipe it away with a cloth but its a permanent scratch. View attachment 256207
