Camera should be 16mp

Totally agree with you. Yes, the Turbo's camera is average in low light. Lot of noise.

That's where the cameras on the 6P, S7 and Pixel really excel; Low light

And they still take excellent daylight images for most folks out there. There's a reason why the 12MP Sony a7S Mark II has been hailed as a low light king.

It's a balance, and there will be compromises to achieve that balance. Ever since the 6P was released, I was certain that it's sensor achieved the best balance out of any on the market... And it did extremely well, even with a few software components that still needed to be improved upon... Something the Pixels have done.

So yes, on paper, some of the camera specs might not seem top of the line, but when taken as a whole, it tells a different story.

Should we wrap this up?

Megapixel count isn't the be-all and end-all for camera quality. There are multiple factors that determine the actual quality of the camera. They include stabilization, sensor size, pixel size, sensor tech, autofocus accuracy, speed, lens quality, software processing and much more.

On their own, they don't tell a whole lot, but you need to know how they work together in order to get the full picture. A 12-megapixel camera doesn't mean it's automatically bad. You need to know what else makes up that camera to realize what it's meant for.

In the case for phones, they're designed to be all-rounders. Because the cameras on our phones will be the ones we use most often, especially for quick shots and vacations. As such, they have to perform well in most, if not, all conditions, light or dark.

My Canon Rebel XSi only has 12 and it's awesome. I think your Nikon just sucks.

(Because when you buy into either Nikon or Canon, you have to defend your choice in order to not feel bad about spending multiple k$ on glass)

LMAO. I use Sony. I just stay quiet and hope nobody points at me and laughs about how much I have to spend to take a damn picture or two :P

grumble mumble robbery mumble

Camera lenses are round because it was found to produce the best results from all the other shapes.

They have to do it diagonally so that it remains circular.

That was not what I asked, sorry. What I meant was whether they really need the camera to stick out of the back of the phone, and why they can't just make it have a higher radius. Do you have to add more lenses (leading to a camera bump) when making the the original ones wider?

Megapixels don't matter. The S7 with one of the most highly regarded cameras has 12MP. Its the quality and size of the megapixel that counts.

Well, there are a few dimensions... You have the size of the sensor, the size of the lens array and the distance between them. Their sizes and orientation with respect to one another determine the optical characteristics.

Larger lenses don't like to be crammed next to the sensor... You want to bend the light as little as possible since that adds distortion and diffraction errors. On a camera, that's no big deal since you can just make a longer lens body. On a phone, you have a mm or two unless you use some kind of periscope system that we've seen in some prototype devices.

They have given the layman the opportunity to take some pretty amazing pictures. It sounds like you have a lot of knowledge and understanding of photography and cameras. This camera gives people who don't some great tools to do well in their everyday picture taking. People like that aren't going to be doing high level editing like you are talking about. It's up there with the best cameras you will find in phones. It sounds like you want a camera that can make phone calls, but I don't think that's what most people are looking for.
