Android Central Question

The radio failed in my Galaxy S8, so instead of signal bars it just shows an X. I tried swapping the sim card, updating firmware, even a factory reset, so I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem. Is that something that can be repaired by a repair shop (i.e. without sending it to Samsung)?

I'm outside the country with no way to swap the phone (it's a Sprint phone) or send it in for repairs, so my only options are local repair shops.

Wifi and Bluetooth still work; it's just the phone/SMS/cellular data that don't work. It was working just fine until a few weeks ago. My wife's identical S8 still works here, so it's definitely my phone that has the problem.

It probably means a new motherboard. Parts for a CDMA phone may be difficult depending what country you are currently in. These are all assumptions. It is definitely better to go to a repair shop for, hopefully, accurate information/diagnosis

Yeah they should be able to determine what's causing this, also take your sim out and tray and look into the space see if anything you see or blow into the open space maybe some dirt .

The radio is part of the SoC, and very few repair shops do component replacement so, as Galactic Zoo said, it's going to need a new motherboard. And that means a Sprint motherboard if it's a G950P. So ... Samsung would probably be the fastest repair. (If it's a G950U, the motherboard can probably be obtained locally. It may take a few days, but they should be able to get one.)
