Can an ATT Gear S2 work for T-Mobile?

Hello, I have a friend that is willing to sell his Gear S2 to me for $100 (It wasn't compatible with his iPhone). He has ATT as his service and I have T-Mobile. My question is since they are both GSM networks can I use his watch on T-Mobile I don't care about the 3G connectivity.

Answered below. The Gear S and Gear S 2 are carrier locked.

You can still use it with your T-Mobile phone just not as a standalone device (Calls, Messages, Navigation) but you Bluetooth it to your phone it will work like a charm. I am using a Gear S2 (AT&T) with my Verizon Note 5.
