can apps be set so the phone doesn't lock?

when I'm playing Pokemon go I sometimes put the phone in my pocket when I cross a road. But when I get it back out again the phone has locked itself. Is there a way to keep just that app open all the time?

Open, as in, keep the screen on?

I use an app called Stay Alive ( https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ils?id=com.synetics.stay.alive&token=nXvDCEjd ) on my Pixel XL to do that when I am using Endomondo at the gym. But, with the screen on while in your pocket I imagine you would suffer a lot of ghost touches.

If you mean let the screen go off but not require an unlock code when you wake the phone again, well, I don't think so...
