Can GPS just die?

Hi all -
I've had by Epic for more than a year and love it. I've used ACE ROM and others and am now and have been on the ERA Legenardy RC2.1 version and have been since it came out.
I use my GPS everyday, all day. I generally use WAZE.
I'm using my GPS yesterday and BAM! Cannot find GPS Signal. I use Google Nav. No luck. Shut down, restart, change battery, let phone be off for an hour and nothing seems to work.
What could have 'broken' my GPS signal? What can I do to fix it. I drive 200 miles a day in the inner city and sometimes I don't know where I'm going. Like this morning, I was 20min late because I was lost. All the maps said Village Drive - but the actual road sign said Renuion. That's not my GPS's fault, but I can't be lost. I need my GPS. What can I do?
Thanks
Theocrat

Back when I had my Epic, broken GPS was a common problem. The solution was to Odin back to stock, get a GPS lock, then root/get CWM/flash ROM.

I say this as someone that first rooted their phone using your ROM long ago. I respect your opinion and will do as you say. I know not to shoot the messenger. I know that this is likely the best bet instead of having to get a new phone. But I still don't like you! /S
I do appreciate it. I suppose I know what I'm doing tonight. :mad:

Well before you go off and Odin back to stock, check out this thread which talks about using a GPS app to fix things. Also, Paul posted this thread about fixing GPS in Gingerbread. And if those don't work, one last Google search for recent GPS fixes couldn't hurt.

Good luck!

Of course, I reset before seeing the next entry. The GPS fix for Gingerbread really works. Very helpful.
Thank you. No its a matter of re-installing all those apps from the market!

Easy. Just create a file called gps.conf with the following information in it. Then replace the /system/etc/gps.conf with this one.

NTP_SERVER=server 0.us.pool.ntp.org
server 1.us.pool.ntp.org
server 2.us.pool.ntp.org
server 3.us.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=0.north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_2=1.north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_3=2.north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_4=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_5=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
ACCURACY_THRES=80
SUPL_PORT=7276
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com

OK ...so far so good! I think this is the fix WE ALL SEEM TO NEED! 300milez yesterday battling with GPS.........ugh.
This is what my GPS.conf WAS (as in the problem is below NOT the solution):
------------------------------------------------
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin

SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
---------------------------------

If that helps anyone diagnose.

To edit I used the root explorer in rom toolbox. Long pressed GPS.conf and hit edit. Renamed it GPS.conf back. ...is made another GPS.conf ....I edited it and pasted the solution there.
