Can HTC Desire internal mem be increased

I have a HTC Desire and am running out of internal mem but have tons on the sd mem.

1. Are the on same card

2. Can this be increased in anyway. Using android 2.2 currently.

3. Contract up soon, would rooting help this.

There is no way to increase the memory. Sorry.

Doesn't rooting allow you to repartition. I don't want more total just more in the app partition
