Can i connect to a TV using a HDMI to USB-C adaptor?

I'd like to be able to watch Netflix on a TV using my phone.

I have a USB-C to HDMI adaptor that i used on a Lumia 950 to connect to a TV. however, it doesnt seem to work with the X Compact. Do i need a different adaptor, or is a there a setting / app that i could use?

I know that Chromecast is only £20, but i thought it may be easier to use what i already have.

Most phones do DLNA through the USB connector, The Xperia X Compact is listed as one that does, so it should work. If it doesn't, it may need a special adapter (Samsung changed pins on their microUSB connectors all the time, but I never heard of Sony doing that) or there may be something wrong with the phone. (There's no setting, it's hardware.)

But a Chromecast, and Google Home, should work with no problem. (And it's trivial to use once you set it up - just run the app, connect to the Chromecast you prefer [it assumes that you have more than one even if you don't] and your phone screen is now on your TV screen.)
