Can I get back Sense UI?

Just bought an HTC One off a friend of a friend...

However it came rooted... without Sense UI. I'm completely new to this sort of stuff.

When I tried doing a factory reset, it took me to a bootload screen with some options. I selected "reboot phone now" to be safe. I didn't want to mess **** up.

It was titled CWM based recovery. I'm guessing that's the custom build?

Is there anyway I can get the original Sense UI back? I want to experience it myself and then decide whether I want to uninstall it or not.

What you have on your device is an AOSP-based ROM, and what you're looking for is a Sense-based ROM, and there are many available right here: One Android Development - xda-developers

If you want a recommendation, I'd go for Android Revolution HD 11.0 since it is basically stock but with improved battery life and performance.

All you have to do is download the ROM, connect your device to your computer, move the ROM to your Downloads folder, reboot back into bootloader, enter CWM recovery, choose to wipe system (or w.e it is called), then go back and tap Install and choose the ROM in the Downloads folder. Make sure the ROM is in the Downloads folder before you wipe anything, though.

One last thing, this thread belongs to the rooting-related section of the forum.

Also, thanks for the recommendation, I think I'm going to do that. I'll have Sense 5 with that, right?

Haha, no problem. Yes it is based on Sense 5.0 and on the latest firmware by HTC 2.19.401.1.

Thanks once again! I'm following the guide that was linked in one of the threads you linked to me.

However, I'm not 100% sure which step to continue from. I'm assuming that - Unlocking bootloader , Flashing custom recovery , Flashing custom ROM , Rooting stock ROM are all done for me already, right?

So I should start with "Going back to stock" ? But over here I realized, "wait a minute.. I don't want to go back to stock... I want Android Revolution HD"

So what I understand is that that guide was completely unnecessary and I should be following this instead :

How to flash:

Download ROM and place it on your virtual SD card
Boot your phone in recovery mode (vol down + power)
In main menu, select "install zip from sdcard"
Select "choose zip from sdcard" and browse to the location of Android Revolution ROM
You can use data wiping option in AROMA (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)
After flashing process is complete, reboot the device

I just want to verify before proceeding, haha Any advice will be appreciated!

Copy the zip to the SD Card internal memory, Go into recovery, and just follow those instructions. It will ask you if you want to do a userdata wipe in the AROMA installer. Just select YES you do because you are coming from AOSP and the setting files will not be the same.

And I'm gonna guess I'm S-Off when it asks me for that option.

I was watching this video How to Install Android Revolution HD 7.0 on the HTC One [AT&T, T-Mobile, International] - YouTube and noticed it was gonna ask me that too

And research that I did says that S-On is when you CAN'T root your phone. So am I right in assuming that my phone is S-off?

S-ON or S-OFF has nothing to do with rooting your device. All you need to do is move the ROM to your internal storage (preferably Downloads folder), boot into recovery, wipe data, and then install Android Revolution HD. There's no need to follow the video since it's fairly easy and you just follow the instructions in the AROMA installer. Oh and before you wipe data (which will not wipe your data, as in music, pictures and such, but just your system and cache) make sure that the ROM in fact IS in the Downloads folder so that you wouldn't end up with no system and no ROM to install.

You can check your s-off or s-on status by booting into the bootloader. You do this by simultaneously pressing the power button and volume down key. If it says s-off and unlocked, your device has an unlocked bootloader and is s-off. This does not necessarily mean it is rooted. You can check root status by installing an app called root checker basic. It will tell you whether you are rooted (which I'd assume you are, since it's running a custom Rom.) From there, all you need to do is download the Rom of your choice on your computer. Plug your device into the computer with usb debugging on. Once the Rom is downloaded into your downloads folder, drag and drop it into your phone via opening a second window and navigating to the computer folder. Your device should show up as detachable storage. I advise being sure the file is NOT dropped into a folder in the device, just to sd. After that, unplug the device and boot back into the bootloader. Choose recovery by pressing volume down until it is highlighted. Press the power button to select. Once you reach recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe system. Then navigate to load zip from sd, find your Rom, and select it. Follow all prompts on screen until prompted to reboot system. And wahla. You are running a sense 5 Rom.

Awesome! Thanks, just for my knowledge, what happens if someone does NOT have his ROM in the downloads folder? Is there a way to recover his phone or is he stuck with a brick?

I just tried booting in bootloader by pressing the power and volume down key simultaneously like you said but nothing happens and after a few seconds the phone restarts. It seems like it's not detecting the volume down key press and it's doing a hard reset.

Check to be certain that fastboot is NOT enabled. You can see this by going to settings> power (or battery, on most phones) and scrolling down to fastboot.

Didn't work. Last night I managed to recovery menu when I tried doing a factory reset

Hm. With the phone on, hold down the power button and the volume down button. A prompt should pop up telling you to continuing holding down the power button for 3 seconds to power off. Keep pressing both buttons. The phone should turn off, remove your finger from the power button but keep holding volume down.

That's the thing... I don't get that prompt... The phone just reboots...

Searched on google and seems someone had a similar issue with their HTC One S [Q] HTC One S - Cannot get into Bootloader - xda-developers

Alrightt...Check to see if there is a fastboot setting anywhere in all of the settings. If not, this can get a bit tricky, but I can walk you through it.

No luck I tried getting into bootloader again too and still same thing.

Will getting in there through Factory Reset help me? Or Will that wipe my Rom that I save in there?
