Can I get some help fixing an LG G4 camera focus issues?

LG G4 camera focus issues

Took some pictures (about 100) today in good lighting conditions (bright sunshine, outdoors), and indoors with large windows and bright sunshine outside, and my G4 has an odd focusing issue where it seems the focusing motor goes crazy and the screen wobbles (the actual image gets wobbly). This has created pictures where fence posts are curved (think S shaped) and on videos there is a background whine when the lens tries to change focus.
Is this a defect of my unit, or is this the expected behavior? I have had many camera phones (my favorite remains the Lumia 1020 so far), and I had high hopes for the G4. So far, I am not all that impressed, but maybe it's just this unit. I have had it for 5 days, so I can still return it. Insights would be great. Thanks!

Welcome to AC.

The camera on the G4 is of very high quality and performance - I have one myself - so unless your phone has been dropped, or damaged in some other way, I think it must have a defective camera module.

I agree. Perhaps the autofocus mechanism is damaged. Bring it back to the store for an exchange, or contact LG for warranty repair/replacement.

I am in the same boat. I had the Lumia 928 which had an awesome camera. Just recently switched to the G4. The camera is much better than the Lumia but my zoom/focus goes crazy anytime I launch camera, snapchat, etc. It messes up pictures and I have to take multiple shots to get a good one. Same thing with videos plus you hear the clicking noise in each video from the lense. Very frustrating. This is the only forum I have found with this issue. I will contact LG support soon and give an update.

Yeah there must be something wrong with your phones. Take them back asap!

There is something wrong with this phone. I have the same one, same issue. Like a week after I got it. Never dropped or mishandled the phone in any way. I switched from HTC to this and I think I made a mistake. Luckily t-mobile exchanged it right away. Still doesn't compare to my HTC one m7

I have no experience of the M7, but surely the camera on the G4 would be far superior? It acquits itself well even compared to my Lumia 1020. Perhaps you got another duff G4?

It sounds like the OIS is going crazy. I would exchange it. The camera takes amazing pics..... When it's not defective like yours.

I haven't read the whole thread and you've probably already tried this, but have you tried cleaning the lense cover of the autofocus laser? I had the same problem this evening and after wiping the laser cover it worked fine.

Did you remove the little piece of clear plastic that covers the lens when it is new?

Same thing here...the focus goes crazy when I out my phone on landscape mode...can anyone update about the issue? My phone has no warranty

I have taken hundreds of pics with my camera and then tonight the pictures are slightly out of focus grainy even . Could I have changed something when I was adjusting manually ?

Assuming enough light for a fast enough shutter speed to counter your shaky hands, the photo should be fine. However, to get a reasonable shutter speed, the camera is going to increase the ISO rather aggressively on low-light shots, which may lead to grainy images.

Can you share an example (unedited, unresized) with us so we can see what you are seeing?
(You might need to use something like DropBox.com for the file size.)

I have been so mad at my LG G4 for crappy focusing lately and I was already on the lookout for another phone but couldn't find anything worthy in my budget and then I stumble upon your advice here and SOLVED!
I feel so stupid LOL. Thank you VERY much for the hint on the focus lens being dirty. Amazing. So simple and it works. Thank you. Have a good day!
