Can I sell my cell phone thats currently on a monthly installment plan for what I still owe on it?

I want to sell my Samsung Galaxy S9+ but I'm currently still on a monthly installment plan. I was going to list my phone for what I still owe on it. Pay it off once I'd receive the funds and than have it unlocked for the buyer. Can this be done? What are some issues I may run into besides not selling it for what I owe. I never see anyone do this and I'm wondering why as well. TIA!

I can't think of any obvious objection, as long as you're transparent about it, but it may be best to ask your carrier about it first, since there may be legal implications.
