Can I send a gmail with a different from address?

I know I can do this in k9, but is there a way to do it in the regular gmail app?

i believe if you have your other accounts connected with gmail you can. in gmail i have my aol connected and when i choose to compose i can send with gmail or switch my aol .

I can do that on my pc, but can't figure out how to make that happen on my X.

The phone follows your standard GMail rules, it sends from the default address (doesn't need to be the GMail address, I send from my own domain's address by default) but you can reply from the incoming address. If you need to switch between addresses on the fly you may be stuck as of now, but if you can get multiple GMail accounts working or even just set up some POP3 accounts you may be able to work around it.

Yeah I can change mine from computer as well to the other account I have synced with gmail.

The only way I found out on sending mail from phone using an email account different then my gmail account, was to sync my other email account though outlook express(I dont have MS office prgms on my pc ) with that popserver email from my internet provider in my case "timewarner roadrunner". I had my blackberry sync that same way.

Let me clarify...I have 2 POP3 email addresses, both of which are forwarded to my gmail account. That gmail account is what I sync to my phone. In the gmail account (on my PC), I have set up my 2 POP3 addresses as "from" addresses, so that if I send someone an email, it will say that it came from either greydarrah@abc.com or from greydarrah@xyz.com. When on my PC, I can also choose either of these 2 addresses when I reply to an email that was sent to me.

But I cannot figure out how to get both of these "from" email addresses available on my phone, using the native gmail app.

LoL yeah text messaging can be tricky commucating sometimes,I agree I dont have my dx with me today so I cant post a pic of what I am trying to say .
On my phone I dont use the gmail app for my other email account I have the other email app setup for that email account, it's shown on the default setup I think with the message folder and gmail folder.

When I acccess that mail folder from my phone not the gmail folder it shows my email being sent from that email address, and not my gmail address.(ex computer(default) email myname@carolina.rr.com)

If I did accesss my gmail folder from my phone it would show it being sent from my gmail , email address. I dont know if that helped or if I confused you more trying to explain it lol but I tried (ex gmail address myname@gmail.com)

PS: I do have that email address synced with gmail and can toggle on the computer between the two(email addresses) as you mentioned in your post.

Actually, K9 lets you set up separate "from" addresses, all tied to your gmail account. So, like on your PC, you can choose who the email says it's from. But aside from that feature, I really like the native gmail app. For now, if I want to send an email showing it's from a different address, I just launch K9 and pick the other one. I was just hoping to be able to figure out a way to do it from the gmail app. Maybe in Froyo, it will have that additional option.
