Can I set a different notification sound for particular people?

I set a default Notification sound in the Settings menu on my Moto Z Force. This sound is played when I receive an SMS message in Message+. Is it possible to set different sounds for messages from different users? Perhaps a way to use a particular sound for messages from contacts? Any apps that can do this? Thanks.

I believe Message + allows for a individual notification sound for each different user that you send text messages with. It's in the actual app Settings. The Messages app that comes preinstalled also has Notification sound options for each individual person, setup within the app Settings. The sound set in the main Settings menu is used as the "default" sound the phone will make for a notification. Most apps that provide audible notifications then have their own Settings menu where you can set different sounds for that app, each person, etc.

Thanks very much, Scott. The Message+ app does include a Tone choice in the Customize options (not in Message+ settings). That's actually where I had chosen a tone (not in the phone Settings). However, there is no option to set a tone per user. If I missed something, please let me know.

I just switched over to the default Messages app, but I don't see such an option there, either.

Depending on where you got the notification tone from, when you apply it, does it allow you to save it to a specific contact like you can do with ring tones?

No, you just check a radio button in Messages/Settings/Notification sound and it's set.

In the Messages app tap the thread to open it > then the 3 dot menu > then people and options > then Notification Sound. That changes the notification sound for that person for each new text. I have multiple different sounds set for different people I text with.

Thanks very much, Scott! This seems to work great. Basically, I have my calendar app (Calengoo) send SMSs as reminders. That means that the SMS actually is from me. So, I used your insructions to set a notification sound for messages from me. That way, I can distinguish between an SMS that's actually a dialog vs. a reminder.
