Can not re-train voice Droid Maxx for touchless control

Hello,
I'm sure this is some sort of an easy fix which I just haven't been able to figure out, however I want to re-train my voice for 'Ok Google Now' and I've seem to have run into glitch. When I go to settings / touchless control...I select 'Train launch phrase' and it pops up with the screen to retrain. The problem is that when I select re-record, and speak 'Ok Google Now' the phone automatically thinks I'm trying to search for something and pops up with a new 'listening' screen instead of accepting my new recorded voice. I thought ok...easy fix..I'll just turn the touchless control off...but when I do that, the train launch phrase is deactivated. Ugh.
I've tried to reboot and everything. Anyone have a suggestion?

Try going into the Google settings app. Tap search & now, then voice, then OK Google detection, and make sure that from any screen is turned off. Maybe it's Google now hearing the phrase?

On the same screen you can select delete voice and retrain voice

Doesn't "OK Google" voice search interact badly with Motorola "Touchless Control" ("OK Google Now")? I thought that it was recommended that one turn off "OK Google" voice search if one is using "Touchless Control".

Doesn''t "Touchless Control" essentially become Google voice search if it doesn't recognize one of it special control phrases?

I have it turned off, but as long as "from any screen" is off it should be fine.

Yes.

But the reverse isn't true - if Google search captures your OK Google, it won't pass along the voice search to touchless control, so "what's up" will just do a search of the phrase rather than read notifications.

Also, I'm not sure if the contextually aware search works that way. "OK Google Now, how old is President Obama" should work, but then asking "ok Google now, where was he born" may not work, as it should if you start from Google search/now. (It may, I've never tried it.)
