For me the allure of the Nexus device is quick update process. Nexus devices have not traditionally been top of the line phones. They don't have the great specs however they are great phones. Google partners with different manufacturers for the Nexus devices and they design them based on how they see the OS should be used. The Moto X should be receiving consistent updates and is a great phone based on specs and neat features however it does cost more than a Nexus device. With the recent drop in price of the Nexus 4, it is hard to go wrong with that device.

Its so much better in my opinion. I still own HTC and Samsung phones. And I eventually root them and put the nexus software back on them.
The nexus is optimized for the original software all from google. It also has an amazing sync feature that keeps things easy. Including your data.
Plus the on screen nav keys look and feel amazing, and the software always gets updated within a week of release.
I always think I want the newest features (samsung for example) but as soon as you see the bulky and clanky UI software, and also realize you never use those features... Its all just a waste.
I also go back to my Nexus because its simply the best device I have ever used. Its always smooth and quick.

Plus if you are one for group messaging and emojis. It comes stock on nexus devices.
I love Nexus and will most likely never switch from Stock android. Google is just simply better at innovating useful features. (IMO)

Im really hoping the nexus 5 is out by November. Its that or the Moto x . Gotta be honest im loving the wood back if they come out with it. Im just sick of the bloated Note 2 . Its full of things I simply dont use and still stutters a bit even though its a quad core. Hell I should just buy the N4 since its cheap right now. Although I live in an LTE area.

The nexus devices have the latest version of android 9 times out of 10. This is generally a good thing, however sometimes google takes the "ship now and fix later" update policy which can add some bugs sometimes. Other main advantage is an unlocked bootloader. This means the wonderful dev community can create software for your phone to make it do all kinds of amazing things you never knew it could, and it will in no way void your warranty to take advantage of it.

Plus you can get on the forum and talk about how much better than everyone else you are because you have a gift from Google(aka god) Nexus device

Pick up a 2 year old galaxy nexus and any other 2 year old android phone and u will realize how much software plays a role in how a phone performs.

Thanks for the replies guys. So based on past launches, with the FCC photos and all of the supposed N5, how long do you guess it will be for an official announcment? Also do they sell them through carriers or online only. Thanks again!

Expect to see it around mid November, Just like the Nexus 4. And carriers are no guarantee. Last year they teamed up with T-mobile to sell it at a premium rate (not worth it) but who knows what will happen this year. The galaxy Nexus had different versions for GSM carriers and CDMA carriers. I know people would really like to see another Nexus on verizon (CDMA) but I doubt it.... Verizon ruined that one.
