I have successfully rooted my phone with a guy I met. We used the HTC Dev method..
also, I have the free wifi tether via app.

I hate how slow the phone is to load from start-up and how slow it is in general with pretty much anything it does. After a good amount of reading these forums I'm thinking a new ROM is the answer to speed and stuff... I like the features in some of them and I would like to eliminate some of the crap software from sprint. I love how sprint assumes I want the nascar app and that game on there I have literally never even opened.

Let's cut to the cheese. I have no idea how to put a rom on my phone or to backup with nand. Every set of instructions I have found is pretty vague. Am I not looking in the right places or am I just supposed to know this? Can someone please give me a step by step and a good rom to start with. I want something reliable, keep free wifi tether, and be fast. Any takers?

Thanks everyone for your patience, I am a noob and usually use forums for my subaru but you know how it is.. whatever it is, I just have to tinker with it.

UPDATE : I am backed up with Titanium Backup. And have downloaded a ROM onto my desktop. What now? Do I just Drag it into my phones folder in "my computer"? I am kinda scared to destroy my phone. Any takers on this one? It suggests a "full wipe" how do you do this?

You have to boot to your boot loader. If your phone is already rooted when you boot it to bootloader it will say unlocked at the top... what you will do is hold he down volume button and the power button at the same time. The easiest way is to take the zip file from your PC and put it on an SD card. Once it transfers to your phone turn your phone off, pull the battery and then boot it to boot loader.. once you get it to the menu, go down to boot to recovery. It will appear to load but it will not it will send you to the recovery menu. Then you go to wipe and wipe all. After its done the you flash ROM from SD card. Then it will let you to choose the ROM from your SD card. Once its complete restart your phone.. I use CM10.. I love it

Shall I simplify for you and organize it better?

^XD I know you know how to, but there are others that don't know how to do it and yes, for a beginner, this can be overwhelming. For the one needing the help with the ROM: Private message me, so I can find out more. And from there I can help. For now, make sure to flash a recovery and make a backup of your Current ROM, just in case.
