Can the Stylus Go Bad?

We have two 12.2's. When detaching the stylus on one of them the Air Command appears, but the stylus has no effect on the the Air Command. we removed the stylus from the other 12.2 to see if that stylus would work. It did work fine. Taking the stylus in question and attempting to use it on the other 12.2 fajjiled. So the assumption is the stylus is bad. Is that possible?

EDIT/UPDATE: Indeed the sylus can go bad. The owner ordered a new one and it works as it should.

I have no experience using a stylus per se (only the odd time at work); but I would assume like any kind of product, with normal wear and tear it could not function it did when is brand new. When did you get the device/stylus in question? Any kind of warranty?

I agree with Morty. These pens have electronic components inside and as you know electronic stuff can fail. Your tablet is probably out of warranty so you may have to buy a new stylus.

This is from the manual
The nib of the S Pen is replaceable. If the pen nib gets dull, replace it with a new one

1 Hold the nib with the tweezers firmly, and then pull it out.
2 Insert a new nib into the S Pen until you hear a click.
Do not let your finger get caught between the tweezers and the nib.
• Do not reuse old nibs. Doing so may cause the S Pen to malfunction.
• Do not press the nib excessively when inserting the nib into the S Pen.
• Do not insert the round end of the nib into the S Pen. This may cause damage to the S Pen or your device
I actually buy new Stylus only under $3, P600 or P900 use the same stylus

No, not in warranty, but hardly used either. But as Beut suggests if it is just the nib that's a cheap fix.

You should have received extra nibs with a tweezer in a little package when you bought your tablet. But you didn't say your nib was worn down so I don't think the nib is the problem.
