can unlocked phone still get updates?

Just bought the HTC One X and with an update maybe around the corner, I can't wait. But since I have an unlocked phone, will it let me get updates? Also, I want to check software updates, can I? I don't want to click and has something happen to my new phone. So what can or can't do with an unlocked phone?

Unrelated question, anything I can do to receive and send picture messages? It says downloading and it never does.

most updates are applied over wifi so the unlocked status likely will not stop a update. fro example a unlocked att phone means if it has the right radio bands you can use on tmobile. to check for updates look in about phone under settings or go to the htc website and look the phone updates up under support
