Can you Root your Airave?

I just got my airave they told me i needed high speed internet to connect my it . I dont have high speed net but i do connect to an open wifi in my area that never shuts off. I need to find out if I can connect to the wifi and use it as the high speed interent. I know that the airave is like a modem so is there a way to hack into the land setting or the IP address and make it connect to wifi??

OR

I also use 'easytether' to connect my laptop to my phones internet. Is there a way to tap into that?

This is just a thought but if you have an old router and make a repeater by going onto dd-wrt.com you might be able to repeat the wifi signal you connect to and at the same time connecting the airave to the old router... it might let you use it
