Cannot change texting plan online or with the My Verizon Wireless app

I want to change my texting from unlimited ($20.00/month) to 1,000 messages ($10.00/month). When I do it on the My Verizon Wireless website, it says, "Sorry. This transaction is not available online at this time" and tells me to call tech support. When I call the tech support number, that fires up the My Verizon Mobile app on my phone. When I try to change the texting plan there, texting isn't clickable:

Why is VZW making it so difficult for me to change my texting plan?

On the My Verizon App select Profile and then *611 On Screen Settings. Turn that feature off. Then dialing 611 will take you to customer service phone support every time.
