Cannot see Nexus 7 files on my computer

Last night I connected my Nexus 7 to my laptop, when I go into My Computer I can see the Nexus 7 icon but when I click on it I cannot see the files it is just a blank screen, normally you can see the internal storage capacity. I think this has happened since the last update which was version 6.0, I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling but still the same, anyone help please.

Pull down your notification shade, click on the USB Charging notification and change it to MTP.
