Can't Change Notification Sound

I can't change the notification sound for my individual contacts. When I edit the contact and select a notification sound, it says it changes, but when you look, it did not change.

Why is it doing this? How can I fix it?

Welcome to Android Central! Are you choosing a preinstalled notification tone, or a custom one? If the latter, is it saved to Internal Storage or the SD card? Make sure it's saved to the /Notifications directory on Internal Storage.

B. Ditty us correct. Can't use files stored on SD card. Must use internal storage. I had this problem when I first tried to customize ring tones. Drove me nuts for a bit, until I moved the files to internal storage.
