Can't charge the phone using the kickstand

Old news I'm sure but I just realized looking at the 360 degree view on Sprint that if you use the kickstand in landscape mode the charging jack is on the bottom of the phone, meaning you can't plug your cable into it. This really limits the use of the kickstand if you're trying to watch say a lot of Slingbox content or other media remotely, since you'll probably kill the battery in a couple of hours.

This is at least the second time HTC has designed a phone this way, is there a reason? I realize they want the jack on the side for desk and car docks but on a kickstand phone why not make sure it's "on top"?

Maybe I'm missing something, let me know.

Oh. My. God. Cancelling my preorder now...Nah, just kidding...Minor detail in the big picture for this guy, and many others I'm sure

They had to know that everyone and their brother was going to ask this question. Why in the world side they not include pictures of it operating in this manner from the get go?

The user manual shows it using the kickstand with the charging port on top.

It goes both ways...hah...But really...you can set the phone either way and it will stay up...haha...like mentioned above

I prefer the charging port on bottom like the current EVO. I keep it on my desk in landscape while I listen to music and charge. It won't be so easy to do that now with the port on the top.

Something like this will not bother me,, if I am using device to watch a movie I would just use a charging dock anyway. Had 2 of them with evo, (office/home) and I have 2 of them with my evo 3d and this device will be no different.

technically 4 -flip phone over in portrait with cyanogenmod 180-degree tweak enabled (please tell me we have an unlocked bootloader and will be getting cm9. None of this at&t bullcrap where HTC can't unlock the One X for "reasons" )

Oh cool, didn't realize it would work the other way around, good to know. The desk dock is a good option at a "desk" but isn't as convenient on an airplane. The cyanogenmod 180 degree tweak is interesting, becuase on a Galaxy Nexus the Slingplayer software ONLY works one way, if you flip your phone over it keeps the picture upside down (unlike most apps in ICS that will rotate whatever way you orient the phone). However if you put the Galaxy Nexus in its desk dock then Slingplayer does orient itself correctly.

Like others have mentioned, it didn't keep me pre-ordering, just found it strange. I really wish they would have used the pogo pins like the Galaxy Nexus or the One X, but I'm guessing this was a cost thing with the SD card being added.

I don't see anyway this will do a portrait orientation.

It just won't stand as upright as it does in portrait modes. The kick stand is spring loaded so that it doesn't fold closed as easily as the kickstand did on the OG EVO. That is how it is able to be used in the "reverse" landscape orientation to allow charging.

I'll wait and see. I guess you could call it portrait but is is very flat and not upright as it is in landscape. I guess my original EVO does portrait too!

From what I've read it has a pretty wide viewing angle too. :D
