Can't clear space!

Hi. I filled up my Note 20 Ultra's internal storage so deleted a lot of things I didn't need but it has barely freed up any space. I emptied the recycle bin but have noticed there is a 42Gb folder /storage/emulated/0/Android/.Trash

I understand this is something to do with where apps can put deleted files for 30 days so they can be restored but is there some way I can manually empty this? I haven't tried just manually deleting files yet as I was worried it might mess up some internal database that pointed to those files.

Thanks

The question is, what have you installed or have on your phone that has taken up all your internal storage? Large games/apps? Media? Hard to imagine just deleted files have taken up remaining gigs of storage. If media have you considered an SD Card to store and point your camera to save all your photos/videos to?

As far as emptying trash, You can go to Samsung Files and pressing the hamburger button on the top corner you can go to Trash and delete whatever hasn't been deleted yet in 30 days. Or you can go to your Samsung Album and go to the hamburger button on the lower corner and go to your Trash and empty whatever hasn't been deleted in 30 days too.

Hi, welcome to AC!

If you go to device care then tap storage , each category can tap and delete what you want

And then once you delete it, you have to actually go to the Trash and empty the Trash to free up the space.

I guess that should be a no-brainer?? But I was just playing with it, deleting some old install files myself and not paying attention I thought just it running the optimizing again meant it would empty the trash. But going back in to double-check it doesn't and realized I had to go into the Trash to empty it manually. Otherwise I guess it permanently deletes when a file has hit 30 days.

Yeah I believe you would have to empty the trash

I think it is video files saved by a 3rd party editing app.

When you're talking about going to Samsung files and emptying the trash, do you mean the recycle bin or the .Trash folder I originally referenced as I believe they are different. The recycle bin is empty however the .Trash folder still has over 42Gb in it

OK so it turns out that the Samsung files recycle bin doesn't include the gallery recycle bin??? Madness.

Anyway I emptied that one too and now I have my space back. I've no idea why they decided that the gallery would not be part of the main recycle bin but there you go

Thanks for your help

Speaking of the gallery, how do you delete files from your phone to free up space without deleting the one drive backup? When ever I try to it says both will be deleted.

Ah... Video files eating up your space. That'll do it... and fast.

Yeah, an odd disconnect that Samsung Files didn't link/manage the Samsung Photo Trash yet Samsung Device Care does and you can delete Gallery Trash from there. Odd... but not surprising.

If you're going to be doing a lot of video, consider a hi capacity high speed SD Card and point all camera files to there?
