Can't convert .Avi to play on Moto e4

Hi. I desperately need help. I have .avi video I've uploaded to my PC, that I'd like to view on my phone and share with friends. I have tried converter after converter but, when I'm told the file has been converted to mp4, I can't find it on my phone. It seems to be there on the PC. (For what it's worth, we don't have Internet on our PC because all we can get is dialup out here in the sticks. I mention this because some of the converters seemed to need an Internet link.) What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help?

MP4 is an envelope, not the video format, just so you're aware. (It has nothing to do with your problem.)

Go somewhere that you can get wifi (a restaurant, any public wifi) and install VLC for Android. It should be able to play anything.
