I've got BT enabled on both my Nexus 9 and my Nexus 5, with both devices paired and my Nexus 5 set up as a trusted device. For some reason though, it shows as "Not connected" in the Smart Lock menu in Settings, and I still need a PIN.
Also, I've got my home down as a Trusted Place and it still needs a PIN. It knows it's there, I've seen it on Google Maps. Good confidence, and it even has the little label under my blue dot saying "Home".
This smart lock thing doesn't work well even though it's hardly a complicated technology. Funnily enough, the most complicated thing, Trusted Faces, is the only one that works, but it's so unreliable I don't care for it.
