Can't stop calender notifications

I recently upgraded to Android 4.0.3 and ever since I've been having trouble with calendar notifications. I have them set by default to not happen. When I create events, they come with notifications at the time of the event. I use my calendar as a reminder, I don't need the popups.

When I login to the desktop site, it also has notifications disabled by default.

Any advice with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
