While in hboot it should have said s-off. If it says that and you have cwr installed you should be able to flash a rom.

Phone goes black then starts up with the HTC logo and then I'm back in the bootloader where it shows the

CWR is Clockwork Recovery that is what you use to load custom roms with.

Try powering down your phone after it is off, hit volume down and power. Tell me what the first line says.

Flashed CWR. The power off with the volume down didn't do anything.

I read this problem happened to someone else with an incredible. This is what they said.

In order to get S-OFF, you need to install the .zip file in ClockWork Recovery.

The bootloader security is turned off during this procedure.

Still didn't work held it for 40+ seconds. However it did start up insanely fast after I released the power button and then held it back down while holding the volume down button. It showed the thunderbolt loading and then it skipped the clouds after where it usually lags and went straight to the unlock.

I removed the P05IMG file if that does anything.

You will need to get into adb the same way you did in the tutorial. After you have a connection to your phone you will want to enter the command I gave you earlier.

That's fine you removed the PG05IMG, it is not needed now anyway.

I can't get into adb the same as the tutorial. it keeps giving me the -bash: cs: command not found

You will need to find out where adb went on your system and get into it, after you have a connection with your phone run the rebooot bootloader command and see if you have s-off. If you don't have s-off then something went wrong with your root process and you will not be able to flash roms.

I got into the bootloader and restarted it via the computer. S is still on. I'll go back through the root one more time just like I have been and see if that does anything.

Make sure you are checking your md5sums very closely. If they are not correct then something is going wrong.

When I'm done with this final attempt I'll post up the whole terminal log so you can see that there were no mistakes.

Got everything to work. 3rd time must be a charm.

Also if I flash to a new rom and backup my old rom. Will all of my apps and widgets be in the same exact place and layout as I had it set before?

Glad you got everything running properly.

Whenever you flash a rom you will want to wipe your data and cache partitions so you will lose all data and apps. A lot of people purchase Titanium Backup from the Market to do quicker set ups after a rom flash.
