can't update google play services

[Android Central Question]

when I want to update an app on my samsung s6, I get the message that I have to update google play services. When I try to update google play services, I am prompted to log in on my google account, but I am already logged in. I am considering to log out by removing my account and logging back in, but I am afraid I will lose data that way. any advice? thanks!
