Cant Update PRL on NEXUS 5

Hi all, I can't seem to find an existing thread on this so here goes:

Im trying to update the PRL on my nexus 5. When I fire up the dial pad and type *#*#675#*#* the text field goes blank and nothing happens.

This occurs even after I wipe the phone to factory spec.

Any ideas? Your help is much appreciated.

The forum server seems to have had an issue yesterday as I couldn't reply.

I am not on a carrier at the moment, although I was on a t-mobile sim for prepaid data.

I had bought the nexus 5 red used and to my knowledge the red one was only sold via the google play store.

Is there anyone else experiencing this problem? This happens with any code I type into the dial-pad.

This is preventing me from using ringplus, and their tech support says they've never come across this before.
 
I thought PRL was primarily for CDMA networks like Sprint and Verizon.
 
Sorry, this is out of my circle of competence.

But after a bit more research I found that both sprint and t-mobile sold the red variant nexus 5.

but the obvious is that since my nexus 5 works with a t-mobile sim, it won't work on a CDMA service such as ring-plus.

Is that the final nail in the coffin?
 
Yes, I feel like a moron about this whole issue.

The good news is, I'm going with PTEL for my GSM RED nexus 5.
