Captivate, Froyo and WiFi

Unistalled and Reinstalled, and all problems are fixed, well at least I thought. Now at work, I am getting the "Obtaining IP Address". I will be again trying to unistall LauncherPro and see what happens!

Mine does this too. However, go to wifi settings, menu, advanced. Check static ip and put all the settings in and it works fine now. I called my isp to find all the info.

Been having this problem at work and the Y in town since the Froyo update. Took the advice in this forum and turned off the Swype keyboard and now, no problems at all with connecting to WiFi.

Interesting that the Swype keyboard could affect something that would seem to be completely separate from it.

Thanks for the information folks!

Wifi errors on stock 2.2?

do what I did
1)use the Allshare app, it will ask you to connect to WiFi, it will then send you to the WiFi networks screen
2) press back to go to a loading Allshare, it will ask to connect to WiFi again.
3) this time wait at the screen, your phone should connect successfully, if not, try again.
4) continue using Captivate.

this always worked for me when the Captivate never worked with my network, but worked fine with others.

Yes sometimes allshre will work, but not stay connected. Still it is not suppose to work that way. You press the wifi button and your phone is suppose to connect to it...all these work arounds are a bunchif crap.
If you put a static IP in it seems to work. That's for those having trouble with swype activated. So far I dud that and have been able to connect and use swype. Still the phone wifi is screwed up with the up date and they know it.

I fouind another thread and it directed me to the all share app. I turning it on and I suddenly got connected. Wondering if this is making some sort of coflict? It has gotten me back on wifi at a Starbucks that was performing the same as at hoime. Hopefully it will work at home too.

Btw, this all-share option worked for me. It was the only thing that did on Froyo. Renaming of /data/wifi/bcm file didn't work. It was a random problem showing up more frequently in the past week.

I started having the wifi problem after I rooted my phone and deleted all the bloatware, including allshare, using root explorer... put the allshare .apk back in the system/apps folder after a second factory reset, and stopped having the problem.
