Captivate is now on sale on the AT&T site

Well he did get extremely lucky especially getting the phone 3 days before launch, and the no contract price of $ 349.. I had to wait until the 18th, I upgraded and only paid $ 199 for my Captivate but I considered an extra $ 150 would mean no contract but they bumped the price up too $ 499...

Cheers,
Charlie

Anyone see that the Captivate is now on sale through Amazon for $50 for a 2 yr. renewal? I wasnt sure how to feel about that. It's a good deal, but it cheapens the phone IMO. Thoughts?

I think as long as it's from a reputable dealer (and Amazon is reputable) and you can confirm it's not refurbished (which I don't think is even possible quite yet), go for it.

I already got mine from ATT for $99, but just saying that bringing the cost down doesnt really help push that this could be a phone that can compete with the iPoop or comparable devices on other carriers.

How does lowering the price of the phone make it a non comparable device? Just because Apple has set prices that never move until a new device does not make it a better phone. As long as development continues which it is the phone is rocking.

Ok, looking to upgrade my wife's phone [secondary line] to possibly the Captivate. ATT is still charging $199 for the upgrade through their site (they charged me $99). What's the best [reputable] place to go now for an upgrade (in terms of price) or should I fight it out with ATT to see if I can get the $99 price for her phone as well?

Phones are cheaper from authorized AT&T retailer sites. You pay more buying straight through AT&T. I just picked up the Captivate from Wirefly for 70.00 with free next day shipping.

Meh. Captivates have been $.01 several times via Amazon Wireless.

Even for free, it is a krufty, kludgey device. It's great in many way, owing to the screen and processor/gpu set. However, the Samsung software and AT&T bloatware and spotty service were a dealkiller for me.

Plus, some phones can not be put into recovery mode. My second Captivate was like this, and therefore no rooting. That's more lockdown than Apple. Eff AT&T and Samsung. Even for free, it is no bargain.

how is bloatware a phone flaw. besides the few mbs that it takes in the storage, just dont use them. heck launcher pro even allows you to hide the icons so that you wont even know its there.

I was able to get my phone at Best Buy for $20 after they do the $30 credit to my account. So $50 out of pocket. I did not have to change my contact. I have the old $50 everything plan.
