Captivate is now on sale on the AT&T site

I was charged, too, and while I have not yet got the cancellation message, I'm sure it's coming. If I DO get to talk to anyone on the phone, I will argue it until they hang up on me! I'm self-employed and I've got allllll the time in the world to sit in my office and give people a hard time on the phone! :p

Did you have to do the verification/more customer information needed process? I still have that message on my order status. I've been trying to get on the phone with their customer service but have been on hold the entire time.

Fortunately, I did not have to go through any verification process with them. I received an e-mail that my package has shipped about 11 A.M. EDT.

It appears I may be one of the lucky few, but we'll have to wait and see if/when the package arrives.

I'm hoping it wasn't half-price for half of a phone :p

Well I was royally skrewed over by lets talk. Not only did they cancel my account, they also have a hold on my cc card for 229 which will take 1-5 business days to be released back into my account. Pissed.

Yeah, I'd say you're lucky! I just spoke with AT&T and they cannot even get me the early upgrade on the Captivate because it is "not in their system" yet. WTF?

The girl on the phone said they could do an early upgrade pricing for me over the phone with her manager, but the phone must be in whatever system they are looking at to be able to do that (and the Captivate is not; it might be in the future, but isn't right now and they have no way of knowing when it will be). They can sell me one for full price (of course), and she can see it in the normal listings on the web store, but unless it's in that special system they look at, they can't do price adjustments.

I finally got through with the walmart wireless customer service and they informed me that ALL of these orders were canceled or the price was adjusted to $499 prior to the shipment authorization. I canceled mine now, too. I'll keep trying to AT&T... they've got to eventually let that phone show up as eligible for early upgrades. Been an ATT customer for over 10 years; should be worth something!


UPDATE: The Captivate did not show up for the operator I was talking to due to the phone being on backorder. Long story short, I got my early upgrade order in after a lot of talking and manager override. No idea how long it will sit on backorder, though. One of these day's I'll actually have the darn thing in my possession.

Update:

Well, I finally did get a call about two hours ago. The rep. tried to sell me the phone with an upgraded data package, but wouldn't sell the phone at the $229 rate. He apologized numerous times and said my account would be credited funds in 3 - 5 business days.
 
I ordered my phone Sunday morning from Letstalk like many others, but I never cancelled when others reported that the $229 price wouldn't be honored. Well, I just got an email and they offered to take $100 off the $500 price and stated that I have until the 22nd to accept their offer. I dont know if I am going to jump since I do have an iPhone 4 and just wanted another Android phone since I returned my Evo. I think it's a nice gesture though.

First post here. I ordered from letstalk on Sunday, and I admit I was a little sceptical after some things I had read about them. I went for the "extend AT&T contract" option. I ordered two phones, the first was free, the second $199. Both phones arrived Tuesday morning, were activated within minutes, and I have been fiddling with them ever since! :)

okay...I am new to this upgrading stuff and I want some information. My at&t contract says that I am eligible for upgrade and I want to get this phone...but rather than getting from at&t can I purchase it from some other sites like letstalk or wirefly who sells much cheaper that at&t and what is the way to get this phone from these sites? do I have to pay anything extra other than $18 upgrade fees?

Yes, you can purchase it from elsewhere. You'll have to visit each of those sites for details. I don't think you'd have to pay the upgrade fee...not completely sure...

When it comes in, the HTC Aria is going back to the store (under 30 days). I don't know if it was $349 because I have called them 2x in the last 30 days about canceling my contract or what, but we'll see when it comes in.

Who did you call? I've been trying to get this no contract through Premier for $372 like several others but I keep being told it is $500 no contract.

I called the 1-800-331-0500 number and used the "canceling your contract" prompt. ATT and I have not been getting along since the iPhone 4 [gasp] debacle where they said I was eligible for an upgrade, then I wasn't, then I was and so on. I've called no less than 4 times to get the early termination fees from them and had extended discussions with my account on 2 of those calls. On a whim, I bought the Aria w/o a contract and liked the phone so much I gave them another chance. Then the dropped calls again and I was done. Even went so far as to order an EVO and I told them that on the phone, gave them a chance to get me a deal on the Captivate and for some reason or another they sold it to me for $349. I even called last night to confirm my order since I never got an email from them. I got a text message late last night confirming it.

UPDATE: Received the confirmation email today from ATT that I indeed am getting the Samsung i897 (Captivate) for $349 and it will be shipped soon.

Good for you. I picked it up on the 15th for the $349 advertised non contract price. The retail store still tells me I got a HUGE deal. Loving the phone and can't wait for froyo.
