How can we check which carrier i am connected to as i cant any option that can show such info with installing additional apps. Asking this because while on roaming we can connect to most of the guest networks and there data charges are 10 times more than what we pay on home network.

when we go to Settings > About device > Status ... under Network we see the carrier's name ... how can i display that carrier name on home screen ?

Not sure how you could, but you could turn data roaming off.
