Casting Issue

Hi all,

I'm new here and would say that I've got a reasonable understanding of Android but I'm that puzzled I've come seeking help.

I used to have the Nexus 5 on which I was able to use the app Localcast as the chosen player to cast videos from another app. I now have the Nexus 5X and I'm basically trying to do the same thing however when I try to choose a player Localcast isn't there. I've tried to download other players to see if they pop up on the list but they don't and now I'm stuck on what to do. The only player on the list is Photos, but for some reason when casting begins, as soon as my phone locks automatically the video pauses!

Hope someone out there has a solution

Welcome back! Was Localcast working on your Nexus 5 on Marshmallow, or was it still Lollipop at that time? Maybe Localcast isn't compatible with Marshmallow yet. Try emailing the developer: support@localcast-app.com

It was on lollipop to be honest so you could be right. But then how would that explain other players or cast apps not showing on the pop up menu deciding which player to use.

How are you trying to cast? I'm not sure where you're accessing that menu.

I'm trying to cast a video from a third party app. Before I could tap the video then a pop-up would come up asking what to open it with. I'd select Localcast and it would cast it to my TV. Whereas now I know tap the video, the pop-up comes up and only Google photos is on there not Localcast

Oh I see. The Marshmallow upgrade might still explain this. The developers may need to change how your app shows which app can play the video for casting.

Yeah I guess so. I'm just existing everything quickly hehe. Want to get everything from my 5X as I did from my 5 and more. Suppose I'll give it time. But still doesn't explain the fact photos casting a video stops when my phone locks 😢

Try going to the Battery Optimization menu, select Photos, and select Don't Optimize. Go to Settings>Battery, and tap Menu>Battery Optimization.
