[CDMA HERO KERNEL] Gumbo Kernel GK-0.2 beta

I would REALLY love to use this, but I can't seem to get Titanium to work :(
It says it needs BusyBox but I can't find it anywhere. I've searched forums and google and the how-to's I've followed have totally screwed my phone.
Please help!

If Sph33r's method doesn't help you let me know. We can figure something out.

Hats off on this. Free RAM was at 108 at boot. 7 hours in with a handful of stuff running and its 87 with 70% battery, and i've not got setcpu yet. gb you have a place for donations? b/t helping me root and this i figure i owe ya :p

Donations aren't necessary. I do this because it's fun, and I enjoy tinkering and talking with others about tinkering. I'm just glad you like it.

I had a lot of problems getting Busybox on my phone. One of these options will probably work for you.

First off, there's some manual busybox installation + files here: busybox for HTC Hero - xda-developers

That actually didn't work very well for me. It installed but Titanium didn't like it and the auto-download of a working Busybox install inside of Titanium (press the Problems button) refused to work.

I then tried this option. [MOD][12/03/09] ADB Remount, Superuser, and Busybox - xda-developers

That's an update.zip style install which will get you a few other things as well. Be warned, this version of Busybox didn't work for me either. However, once I installed this and reinstalled Titanium, I was able to click the Problems button and have Titanium download the working version of Busybox. In about 5 minutes, Titanium was working for me.

Kind of a pain, but I did eventually get it working. I hope this helps you a bit.

Thanks for that. Users helping users is great to see.

I'm running fresh 1.1, and i reinstalled quick office with the prekitchen. Screens 1 and 7 have nothing, but the rest are either full of widgets or close to it. Home screen has 9 blocks being used (soon to be 10 as i'm purchasing setcpu right after i finish typing this reply). I just checked my RAM again and its at 92 haha. Battery is about to hit 20hrs and its at 39%. Really looking forward to seeing how much setcpu can improve it.

edit: just got setcpu, does this need to be open at all times to be in affect or can it be killed with the task killer and ran in the background?

Leave setcpu running. You may even try with the task manager killed off. The RAM hack does a pretty good job of managing everything and keeping it snappy.

Is overclocking restricted to Droid/N1 users? Also, I think I read this somewhere but can't seem to find it now, but can overclocking shorten the life of your processor?

This worked like a charm! Thank you SO much! Now to flash the kernel :D
*UPDATE*
So my phone seems VERY snappy and responsive even with SetCPU in ondemand mode 480/245 <3
But I'm only showing 32mb of free ram even after running cachemate & rebooting.
I DO have 92 apps and a widget on every screen except L3, tho; so I'm not sure if that's part of the issue.

Our processor should be able to hit 784. No idea how stable it would be or how long it would last, but I'm thinking of trying to see if I can blow the top off of it :)

Yes overclocking is very hard on a processor. There's a reason Apple, Moto and Palm have that OMAP processor clocked to 600 or lower.

I've done a couple of tests:
1. Installed Gumbo 1.5b on its own -- extremely stable and smooth
2. Installed Gumbo 1.5b + .31 Kernal -- even better!
3. Installed Gumbo 1.5b + .31 Kernal + SetCPU -- Even the speed of light can't keep up, lol.:D

Everything is working extremely well, so far, so good. My memory stays at about 80 to 90. My battery life is hard to gauge right now, as I've just gotten a new battery (Mugen 1800 mah), which still needs to be conditioned, which is what I plan on doing this week and report back the results. I have SetCPU set to: On Demand 528 Max - 245 Min.

Quick question though: When initially opening SetCPU - it asks to select which Phone you have or you can have it auto detect, since the CDMA Hero isn't an option, which one would be the best option?

Oh yea, I don't know why -- but I too have the VVM app on my phone (does work, no FC's). However, I don't use it, since I have Google Voice.

Lastly, I'd love to be a 1.5c tester if possible. Thanks for all the hard work!

GB, just a quick question/concern, not sure if I am posting in the correct thread, but here is goes. I have been testing this ROM with Kernel and everything has been going very well, speeds are great, and user interface is awesome. I am having an issue though, Anytime I receive a call while on the phone, it will allow me to answer but after completing both calls it hangs in the current call screen and the only way to get it to end is pulling the battery. I have obviously attempted normal closure but to no success. Any ideas? Thanks again for your help.

Ran 1.5b for a couple of days and was very nice and fast. No FC's.
Installed .31 kernal with setcpu - everything is faster and very stable and still no FC's.
Great work - Ive tried all the ROM's I could find and this is my favorite. I just wish someone could get BT to work.
I also would like to help test 1.5c for ya!

Likewise, I would too -- I've just read from the other thread, that you can download 1.5c from the link below. Have fun!!
[CDMA KERNEL ROM]Gumbo Kernel beta project + RAM hack - Page 36 - xda-developers

So I've been running Fresh 1.1 and the Gumbo kernel with SetCPU, and I've noticed a few things. I have setCPU in ondemand mode @ 480 max 245 min and even like this I have TERRIBLE battery life & have not noticed a drastic increase in mbs :(
Did I do something wrong or is there an app that could be conflicting w/the kernel?
I've noticed that Always Flash is affecting my sleep time, but every time I try to uninstall my phone goes completely haywire.
Thoughts?

*edit*
I've also noticed that I can't turn my phone off because when I turn it back on I have no signal and I get errors in the market & music player. Strange, I know. In order to fix it I have to do a wipe & restore apps w/Titanium :(
