[CDMA HERO ROM] Gumbo ROM 1.5c

Sorry I haven't been able to get back to you guys. No power and phone finally died so I have been at the mercy of the power and cable companies.

@pseudoremora - Great look. I'm glad you're digging the ROM, and thanks for fielding some of the questions!

@vco08 - Yours is looking great too! If you could, please test out the Alarm clock functions on Bare for me please.

@prguy85 - Your input helped the most for this version. If 1.5c gives better memory and power management it's because of you. I'd like to thank you for that. Now should you upgrade? - I think you should. Make sure you flash the user-config add on. All settings for free memory and cpu governor are set in one file, and it actually works to adjust things since I rebuilt the init.rc (files that controls start-up). Load whichever version you like (they ALL have VVM this time :) ) and the userconfig. Run the phone for a little while. If you decide you need some changes, the file /system/init.d/gumbo.sh is where the magic happens. You can pull it and edit it on your PC. It's pretty simple and commented so you know what to edit, and if the pre configured settings don't cut it (they DON'T for me) you can edit them as well. And I'm here (and you have my email) to help you decide on settings. The one drawback - you can't edit the file with a regular Windows text editor. You'll need to install a free windows program that lets you edit Unix text files called Notepad++. Edit it, push back to the phone and restart. If you have Root File Explorer you can even edit the file without pulling it.

@i2fuzzy - When I build a stand alone Dropbear package I'll do that. I can see where people would want only Sprintnav. Just didn't think of it before.

@superlinkx - Does it FC at startup or when trying to use it? It works here, so I need a bit more info to help troubleshoot.

@pazookie - did they work before? I've never activated them and I'm not really sure what they are supposed to look like :o . I know fancy rotation works.

gmail

my gmail forcecloses all the time, but i only installed 1.5c bare, and gumbo add on .. im gonna install sense to see if that fixes my gmail... if not, then that sucks because this rom is bangin!

i did a nandroid restore to start back at 1... i want bare 1.5c, with gumbo add ons, with only sprint nav,and teeter. i need my gmail to not forceclose, and do i need certain drivers on the computer im using, for the pre-kitchen 2.0 to work? everything is perfect... almost!! thanks

okay, when i did a wipe everything worked... Now i did a nandroid restore because i need to find the easiest way to backup my contacts.. What app or program should i use for that? and i guess ill have to write all of my apps down when doing a wipe also, or is there a way around that?

I flashed this ROM last night and ever since my phone is noticeably faster. Also, I used to receive text messages from people countless minutes after they actually sent it. I tested it numerous times to be sure. But it seemed to be not from sprint but the phone because i would instantly receive the message when i waked the screen. Anyways, after flashing this gumbo, that problem has vanished.
Thanks and keep up the great work gb

@jtemple33 - Glad it's working for you. The background processes should run a bit better, so that might be why you're getting messages more timely.

@ebuechler3
Whoa big fella :D . Having to wipe between flashing different ROM's isn't that uncommon. A lot of times it works without, but not always.
Your contacts - are they in your Gmail account? If so, when you log in the first time after a wipe they will be automatically restored. If they are not, sync your phone with your Windows computer while running on your backup, then wipe/flash and sync again.

As for the apps you want to add, you can either use the Fresh kitchen or the adb shell to add them back. Alternatively you could flash the full ROM and remove what you don't want. Please understand I don't have time to make each individual app as a flashable add on, and simply tried to make it convenient for most users.

Great rom gb but have a question for you. How can I remove some of the stock apps that are in the rom such as IM, footprints, peep etc? The only reason I ask is because im at the point where if I install one more app and i reboot my phone i get that FC bug and the radio won't turn on so i'm trying to get rid of the apps I don't use so that I have more room. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Do this...But, be very careful not to remove the wrong apps. Make sure you do a Nandroid backup first before removing anything. You'll need to have Android's SDK installed and you open a command prompt and cd to the tools directory. For instance, mine is at c:\android-sdk-windows\tools. So I would do this...

cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools

C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb shell (should take you to root #)
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
$ su
# mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# cd /system/app
# ls

More info

@superlinkx - Does it FC at startup or when trying to use it? It works here, so I need a bit more info to help troubleshoot.

It only force closes when I try to use it. I'm not sure what is causing it. I will try reflashing it and see if it works. I stopped using the ROM until I got some help. If its working on other phones, I may just need to try again. I'll post back later.

Ok, I did a reflash and Voice Search is working now. Wonder what caused it earlier? Anyways, love the Rom. Good work!

just download the Sprint apps pack in the first page. Extract it on your computer. Go into system/app and you should see 5 apk's. To make it easier I then moved only the Apk's i wanted to C:\temp\ but you dont have too. Then do:

adb remount
adb push "PATH"\"APP.APK" /system/app/
adb shell reboot

in my case I did "adb push c:\temp\Sprint_Navigator.apk /system/app"

push all the apps you want before you reboot

Sprint Nav is just telenav rebranded. It works standalone as was mentioned.

Sprint core services are still in the bare/sense ROMs. Had to do that so VVM still worked. If you push the sprint files as mentioned, it will work.

Alternatively, you could flash the Sprint pack and rm the ones you don't want.

Thanks for looking out guys. Even with the power back on, I'm still living like a primitive here. The community goal was to shovel out a path so someone with a big 4wd can get to the store, as everyone is out of cigs and running low on food lol. Now I have cigs and caffiene again so I'm back to real life :)

I have been running fresh for quite a while. I flashed the gumbo kernal and was very very happy with it. I started to grow tired of sense and started using the regular home. I was very satisfied running home with beautiful widget over sense so I started to look into removing sense. Then I found the gumbo rare. I flashed it this morning and and liking it so far. Thanks a bunch.
