Has anyone experienced this? When I cover the lower portion of the back with my hand I lose roughly 20db. I go from -80db to -101db or 4 bars to 1 bar. Is this common with others or is this unique to my phone?

Thanks for any info

I made a thread about this and I was called a liar. I would loose LTE when I gripped it. Seems a couple of ppl are now reporting this on the Sprint version.

What I have read about antenna locations. Is that the CDMA antenna runs along the bottom behind the white strip, the LTE antenna is located under the power button and run along half the width of the top strip and the WiFi antenna runs along the other half of the width next to the LTE.

I hold onto decent reception so long as I hold above the bottom one. I don't have LTE coverage here with Sprint yet. You are most certainly not a liar. The supplied screenshots should help provide a sense as to how much it's affected.

Every phone has points where you can hold and lower the signal strength. In the words of Steve Jobs "Your holding it wrong"

While this is true I think he is basically seeing if others experience it because it can be annoying. Even though every phone has a dead spot the manufacturers have to place the antennas in good spots.. Basically not in the common hold spots.

How do you know where these spots are? I cradle my phone in my hand, thereby covering the whole thing. (Note: don't have this phone. Just wondering generally.)

Well you have to be realistic.. Of course they can't put them in the perfect spot for everyone that would be impossible... But you can say the popular spot is holding the phone near the base. Not everyone does it as I don't some times but it's a very common spot.

Should have been clearer. I meant how do you know where the dead spots are on a phone.

As the guy said he saw a thing explaining where the radios are and the CDMA one is at the bottom.. Hence his signal drop. As one of the previous posters said you can make any phones signal drop if you find the antenna in it and cover it with your hand.. But manufacturers can help to avoid it by placing the antennas in a place that isn't commonly covered by hands.

Look up the iPhone 4 "antenna gate" as they called it. Apple thought it would be great to have the antennas at the bottom of the phone and on the outside (which was even more stupid) and this caused people's signal to die when holding the phone on a call if they covered that spot.

But /shrug. I was just saying it's up to the manufacturers to place them in good spots.. I can personally live with whatever because I had a IPhone 4 before and learned to deal with it by holding it a certain way.

I assumed he was talking about *your* phone, not *all* phones so I was wondering how one gets that information for any phone.

My reason for asking was to determine whether this was common or if it was my phone alone that was having the issue. I know Sprint requires a different radio than the other carriers and that it might have been an issue. I can live with it if replacing the phone isn't going to remedy the problem. It's poor design and that sucks, but at least I know it's not a faulty unit.
