Chads Kernel 2.6.32.26-HAVS-BFQ-GPU+-smartass

installed last night, battery actually might be a little worse for me (was running virtuous custom #2) but will give it a full week for testing. Also i have the virtuous rom 3.1

Did you clear Davilk cache?

Though, its not uncommon for some kernels to perform differently on identical handsets. What works for some, may not work for others due to hardware inconsistencies and personal usage.

Hope it works out for you!

sad to say, i used this kernel for a bit, and it slowed me down, however invisiblek's AOSP version of this worked fine...wierd.

Before you say it, i whipe everything before install, i whipe battery stats and dalvik cache.

I had the same experience and concerns. About 36 hours after install it settled down and I couldn't be happier.

i had to take this off the phone tonight. the radio seemed to always remain on 1X at my work. Its not the best signal there but i still would get 3G most times. With this kernel it was constantly on 1X and causing email and battey issues. i loaded another kernel and i instantly got better reception and 3G. Sorry! every phone/ROM is different

Howarmat-What kernel are you using. I am also experiencing the same issues as you. I use the Virtuous 3.1 Rom.

sorry for asking a dumb question but what is a kernel and what does it do. also i just rooted today so how would i install this if i wanted to?

i tried to clear Davilk cache on my phone for this kernel, but it wont. says somethin bout not mounting the sd card?

E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(file exists)

but then i hit yes, and says dalvik cache wiped

Directions to flash a kernel are on post #12 of this thread.

This will help you understand what a kernel is, click here

It still wiped your cache, no worries. Look below (or above) on how to remedy the situation.... if you so wish to. If not, no need to worry.

xda-developers - View Single Post - [Rom] Redemptive rEVOlution 2.1.3 *UPDATE* 11-20-10 Inc - EVO Hybrid

It's a benign error. Generally means an improper formatting/setup of your sd card. You don't have have sd-ext partition setup for apps2sd. It tries to mount it, but cannot since the file doesn't exit (even though it says it does). You can fix it by formatting your sd card with RA recovery with the default values of 512mb of sd-ext (the reported minimum is 128mb), 32mb of swap, and the rest as FAT32. RA recovery can format your SD card; just flash it in ROM Manager under the Alternate Recovery option, reboot into recovery, format your sd card with the guidelines I gave, then flash Clockwork back through ROM Manager if that's the one you prefer. Supposedly Clockwork 2.5.1.1 has this option, but I've haven't tested it so feel free if you want, and let me know how it goes.

But again, it's benign, so you don't HAVE to fix it especially since it doesn't affect clearing the dalvik cache. Personally, I do since I don't like errors, benign or not.

Well I flashed this kernel 2 days ago and I do not see any improvement in battery life or charging time. In fact both still seem worse. Now it may be my fault due to CPU settings but I was expecting more from this.
I downloaded SetCPU and formatted everything to smartass. I did not overclock as I don't need to. Should I be setting my cpu settings to something different to increase battery life. I though this kernel was supposed to help battery life because of smartass.

I would not recommend using SetCPU with this kernel at all.... When you say you formatted everything to smartass, what did you change? The default governor is smartass once the kernel is installed so you don't even need to use SetCPU to do anything.

I have an uptime of 5 hours and awake time of 2 1/2 hours with 83% of battery remaining on my 2150 extended battery. Lots of tweets, facebook, and web surfing as well.

Can this be used on the DINK's stock ROM, and how do you get the original kernel back if should there be a problem? Really just looking for an easy way to get better battery performance.

Thanks.

Hi Rugyua9.
I decided to try the setCPU to see what was going on with this kernel. I noticed that the default governer was set to smartass but when I looked at the different profiles (ie: Performance, normal, screen off, powersave, extreme powersave)they weren't set to smartass.
I then had a problem with my wifi. When I press the power button to put my phone into sleep mode then turned it back on my wifi connection was turned off. Then I realized that under each profile were the services that each controlled. So I set them all to leave alone instead of enable. That fixed that problem but I am not seeing any benefit from this kernel.
Thats why I said I may be the problem not the kernel because I went in and changed the settings. So the question is do I just delete the SetCPU and let the kernel do its thing or just tweak the cpu settings.

If you have already changed the governor settings via SetCPU i think they stay even if you delete SetCPU.

If you reflash the kernel and don't touch any of the settings you might see improvement. I don't have any problem with my WiFi or WiFi tethering.

Reinstalled and wiped dalvik cache. I will post back in a couple of days with my findings.
