Changing tray icons?

Is there anyway to change the default icons in the tray without root or using another texting app? For some reason it's starting to bother me that the sms app in the tray looks like an email. (Not asking how to get different apps in the tray, just how to change the icon of an app that's there.)

i dont have an answer. i have noticed how little things bug cellphone users big time. maybe you can stop message notification cause they normally are not selectable/changeable

If you download a new launcher (no root necessary), you can then download different icon skins

I've used the app "folder organizer lite" in the past, which allows you to create shortcuts to your apps with custom icons...
