Charger Cover Broke

folks,

do not call the 800-samsung number. They honestly dont give a crap and will not help you

what you have to do is blow-up their facebook page with complaints. Just copy and paste the issue into every reply you can and someone at samsung will contact you to fix this and to avoid the embarrassment

If you don't mind me asking did you pay for your phone directly from Samsung or is it on contract with a network. I know usually a faulty item would go back to the Point of Sale which is my network provider. I might give them a call and see if they will accept it and get it fixed for me.

I got my phone through my network provider. I rang a local approved Samsung repairer first but as the S5 is so new they are not authorised to fix it yet. I then rang Samsung about it as they would have to fix it eventually so I did not bother with my network provider.

Agreed. I am waiting for them to come into stock so I can order one. I have not purchased a case for my phone yet, as I want to make sure to get one that will work with the wireless back cover.

I wanted to wait to buy a case but who knows when they are going to release the wireless charging back covers.

Yes mine broke off, when I unplug it. Had it for 2 days. Only open twice.

Its frustrating that it is happening to a lot of users and Samsung have emailed me back insisting that it is damage caused by the user since all devices are thoroughly tested. Shame there is not a Samsung store near here because I would go in store and mess with one until it broke. Given these devices usually have to last 2 years its not looking good after just 2 weeks.

Yes, even though mine hasn't broke yet, I am frustrated for those users who did have it break

I was rough with it at the Samsung store and it was resilient. However, If people are saying theirs broke already, there is definetly a crappy QA department at samsung because the glue Is clearly defective on some devices

I wish samsung would just owe up to it.

The best way guys, is to let every android blog know about this to shame samsung into fixing it for free

Also, spam their Facebook page of this issue.

Glue? I thought it was held in by a removable plastic piece with a screw keeping it attached. Which kind of makes it repairable but only if there are replacement parts to repair it with.

Here is a picture with the part circled. source: Samsung Galaxy S5 Teardown - iFixit

I feel like if the rubber/door part breaks you should be able to fix it yourself if you have a replacement. Does anyone know if you can just buy the door/rubber part?

Well the rubber sticks onto the flap via glue

On the backend, there is a screw

All depends on which end it breaks from

Ah I see what you are saying...I like to fix things myself so hopefully down the road if it happens to me there is a replacement part I can buy online.

I haven't occurred this issue at all, I have found that it isn't that tough to open the cover and it seems pretty durable from my messing around with it. I think the best thing for the time being is for people to show a bit of patience, I can only imagine these will soon be sold for $1 each and it looks like a very simple fix with a small screw driver.

One thing I can't stand is when a company doesn't own up to an obvious fault.

I already ordered a Qi set-up on Amazon - the charging plate got here yesterday and the S5 back cover with Qi coil is supposed to ship later next month. Hoping the connector on my phone does not break before it comes!

This is horrible. Wife has had the phone for 15 days and bam. Port cover broke off nowhere to be found. So I jump on here to see what to do and there's dozens with the same problem. Did a chat with Samsung and they make it sound as if I purposely damaged the phone and want me to send it to them. This is crazy I just want to buy the part and have shipped to me so the water resistance is still valid.

There are two things to note about the port cover:

1. It is not necessary for the phone to operate. However, without it water could get in and you have to keep the S5 dry. Both my kindles have no port covers and cannot be dipped in water. That is how most tablets and phones are built. It is NOT critical damage if the port cover gets twisted off. One can still press the detached cover in firmly and it will stay sealed and keep the phone dry. The only purpose of the cover tab is to make it hard to lose the cover. One would have to be careful to keep control of the detached cover if the tab breaks. It is not necessary to repair it in order to have the phone operate or to seal the phone from water.

2. When inserting the USB 3.0 cable, do not twist the cover up or down. That will place pressure on the cover tab and break it. Instead, just open it slightly with a finger nail, lay the S5 down on a flat surface next to the USB 3.0 connector. Then slide the connector towards the cover slowly pressing it to a 90 degree pitch. Then slide the connector into the open port. The cover should rest at a 90 degree pitch parallel to the side of the connector as the charging takes place.

#2 is probably a great way to do it but just guessing most people in this thread already has a broken port cover

See my edited part 1 of my post to see how to deal with the situation if the cover tab does get broken. You answered before my edit was complete. It is not necessary to pay a lot of money to repair the cover tab.
