Re: [Chatter] "Where everybody knows your name ..."

MacBook pro w retina as a GTX 670m.15"display with 8 or 16GB RAM,128GB SSD 256GB SSD or 512GB SSD, with the superior desktop operating system;)

And yet a MBP with a retina display specced out to equal that Dell XPS 15 would run me $400 more than the XPS 15. Furthermore, I wouldn't call OS X a superior desktop operating system for a developer. I triple-boot Windows 7 with a custom-modified shell, Windows 8, and Linux. I've experienced nothing but headaches while trying to boot multiple stable operating systems on Apple hardware.

I'm not saying it's inferior for every use case, but my work efficiency drops dramatically on Apple hardware and software. And I'm one of the few who has taken the time to try it out with all of my software (Adobe suite, dev tools, etc.) installed.

Hmm, I use Jedit and Xcode and my laptop is i(think?) quad booted. Chrome OS, OSX 10.8.3, Ubuntu and W7. I have NO issues with it. every developer I know uses a mac even if they are not developing for OSX or iOS. Just my experience.

I just run windows 8....I always use the desktop and never touch the modern UI and apps completely pointless.....

Sorry if I came off as defensive it's just that for the majority of the people a Mac is the perfect computer no worries for Anti virus or other anti software and its so stable.Same cant be said of the confusing interface of W8 and a bit of W7.

You're right. I know many designers and developers who run on Apple hardware and software, and certainly fewer who run on Windows or Linux. The bottom-line for me is that I don't use any operating system as it is ? I modify it. Usually quite extensively. I haven't experienced the same level of control with OS X that I have on Windows and Linux. I've solved all my stability and performance issues with Windows through custom shell modifications and custom driver configurations. I set up the operating system and all applications exactly to my desire, and keep images of that state. All other temporary data and files are stored in dedicated partitions or externally.

I have the option to completely reset the operating system and all installed applications at will, in under three minutes, and with zero risk of data loss. Under thirty minutes if I perform a low-level format before the imaging process. I haven't found such an elegant solution for OS X yet that gives me the same level of control (i.e. no proprietary or third-party software).

There's a difference between not having to worry about viruses and malware and not needing anti-virus software installed. I'd be wary of having an unprotected computer, even if it is a Mac. OS X malware is rare, but not nonexistent. You didn't say that you didn't have anything installed, but I wanted to make the point either way.

I have scanner but nothing that will protect me. The scanner runs every hour and gives me a report of all installed applications.

Wow, you are a minority. But I would LOVE to have your knowledge on customising shells and such, all I can do is build PC's flash the drivers an over clock them via BIOS.

I was thinking of using the name(for the podcast and blog) science at home. But not necessarily what you might think. It would be me explaining to people why science matters in their life.E.G why is space travel important for the everyday person(aka you and me) i just feel like i have much to say,and nowhere to say it.I was thinking i could go around interviewing different people related to the scientific field so that it isn't just...well me

I think it could be interesting, but you'd have to make it fun, perhaps do projects and stuff. Not a lot of people are interested in science and get bored by long discussions of things they don't understand.
